Hello everybody!

I am just posting to ask whether anyone has any experience of the problems my cat has been having. She has had a very gunged-up eye, and could barely open it. She also looks frail and skinny, and even though she is 15 years old, this is not normal. I personally couldn't take her to the vets, but some relatives did, and the vet said recommended some eye drops, and said there was no damage to the eye itsef. However, he has not ruled out the possibility that there may be a growth/tumour behind the eye, which is causing her to act in this way.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of problem? Am I right to realize that this may mean I will lose my cat?

When my macy was a kitten, she was treated for conjunctivitus, it kept coming back until the correct diagnosis of Chlamidia and this was successfully treated with antibiotics..

Alaska had an eye problem this time last year and we are still not sure if it was conjunctivitis or hay fever/allergy to pollen (because of the time of year it was). Despite being given medication (Fucithalmic) by the vets (which I used for a week and her eye was not responding to) I just popped into a chemist and got her some Optrex 'Infected Eyes' and it was all cleared up within 48 hours. The vet said I should use it again or use a salt water wash or white tea (or was it green?) wash on her.

I have also used a home remedy formula that a doctor at the Moorfield Eye Hospital uses for conjunctivitis - and is safe to use on humans and animals. He says that it can even stop things progressing into a full blown infection if used soon enough and can be used along side medication.

It's nice and simple; put a quarter of a teaspoon of Bicarbonate of soda into a freshly boiled cup of water. Let it cool and it’s ready to use. And is nothing else it is incredibly soothing for even the most infected eyes.

It's not out of the question but it's not definite, the vet is just informing you of the possibility but treat your cat and take it from their,the vet will keep you informed and advise accordingly-i do hope your cat regains good health and hang fire yourself..try not to work yourself into burying your cat as you know nothing concrete yet-will keep everything crossed that he/she turns a corner and gives you another few yrs to dote on him/herPlz keep us updated if you canGreat tip Otters-the optrex stuff-haven't needed to but if i doGood thinking batwomanLOl

Another couple of things you can try are, camomile tea, very soothing for sore eyes, just make a cup and leave to cool then apply with cotton wool. One thing I have tried is piriton tablets, one of my MC's gets a eye infection due to suffering from hayfever, the piriton works wonders and is safe to use on cats.
