Cost of feeding raw

Hi everyone,

So I think I want to start feeding my 7 m-o kitten raw food. He's doing ok on Sainsbury's dry (yes, I know it's cr@p) but I can see he's not at 100% and I believe in feeding animals what nature intended. Thing is, I'm unemployed at this time and it doesn't seem to be getting any better for the next few months. I have enough savings to keep going for a while but the longer I can make that last the better. Still, I'm willing to deprive myself a bit for the sake of Mr. Bingley, you know, so long as I can pay the rent.

I've been looking at the prices on food4cats and they look very low (making me think maybe i should get my own meat from them too ) but I have no idea how much a growing cat eats and so what kind of amounts to calculate for. There's also the issue of supplements.

I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how much it would cost to go this way and what cheaper but healthy alternatives might be? I want Mr. B. to live forever but long is the next best thing

Re: Cost of feeding raw

That's a really interesting suggestion. I didn't know they did that. I'll try to google them up for the Oxfordshire region.

Re: Cost of feeding raw

If you do enough research you can create your own meals, I worked out I was spending around £250 a year on Whiskas and I'll now be spending £57 a year on raw! That's not including the meat I may find for free.

If you get the diet right then you don't need to give them supplements unless you're paranoid. If you feed them whole mice then you definately don't need to worry about supplements.

You can PM me for more info if you like

Hope that helps.
