Kitty 14 Wks with diarrhoea

Hi Everyone
My Kitten who is 14 weeks has diarrhoea, hes had it twice now over about 3 days. (all over the beds I might add) its extremely runny. He doesnt seem ill and is still running around, eating and drinking. I have taken food off him this evening and given him a cat diarrhoea tablet that I got from the pet shop. He eats Pets at Home Purley Kitten food and has always been fine on this, although last week end I gave him some raw fish and a bit of liver as I would like to start him on raw diet. He luved this and it didnt seem to upset his tummy at the time. Ive been feeding the dried since then as with the weather I havent had chance to sort myself out to get anymore fresh food.

Has anyone any ideas what could be upsetting his tummy, he doesnt go out and there is nothing else about that he could have eaten to upset him.

He has been eating usual dry food only for a week now and still has the runs. Wormed him this morning - will that help?

If you want to start him on a raw diet, try chicken breast chunks, not fish. Too much too soon can upset a kitties tummy. Try with chicken chunks and if it doesn't improve then I'd take him to the vets.

Hope that helps.

I had the same problem with Tilly..she was sick and had the runs all the time..it takes time for them to adjust when they are young but then I started adding a little cooked chicken to her food and she was fine..Maybe your kitty shouldnt be having so much dried food..it could hard on its stomach!

I did wonder if it could be the dried food, also this has started since I started a new box of food, wonder if any ingredients have changed. Would the packs of minced chicken from Pets at Home by any good?

I would echo the comments above and just give your kitten some home cooked chicken or cooked coley fish on its own for a few days to settle its tummy... Then slowly introduce normal food... maybe trying something different from the dry too? But slowly.

My two have had awful troubles with their tummies and i periodically have to put them onto plain cooked chicken and fish to settle their tummies but am going to slowly get them onto a raw diet as feel they're old enough now to handle it...

Re: Kitty 14 Wks with diarrhoea

I find that with good quality dry food it helps to feed less at mealtimes. When I improved the quality of our kits dry food I noticed they got a bit squitty, I rung the company and they suggested reducing amounts given and it worked straightaway. Also what with potential kidney problems that can be caused by feeding dry only I always feed our kits at least half wet or raw food (at separate meals - if you mix dry and wet at the same meal they just hack it up.) It seems back to front but the wetter the food they get the more solid the poo x

If it persists for more than a week you should visit the vet as it could be a bacterial infection. This is usually easily dealt with by some antibiotics. Also try Royal Canin Sensitivity S/O. It's pricey but I always keep a box as my two have sensitive tummies and it's fab.
