Chicken wings - raw

I have just tried a chicken wing with my Maine Coons but am still a bit worried about the bones.

Does anybody else feed their cat chicken wings? The male liked it a chewed the tips but then got bored. The female decided to play with it - I put my foot down at it being carried all round the house though.

Re: Chicken wings - raw

I personally wouldn't feed raw, but i do give my cats steamed fish twice a week. the thought of blood and bacteriafrom raw meat being spread about the kitchen would worry me...

Re: Chicken wings - raw

I don't feed chicken wings because mine won't eat them! But it's perfectly safe, so long as they're raw.

Re: Chicken wings - raw

Raw chicken (bone in) is the ONLY thing that has worked with a couple of cats of mine that have sensitive stomachs.
Yes, I would recommend it - same with raw beef (stewing steak and minced meat).

Never leave bones in cooked chicken though - it's the cooking that makes the chicken bones dangerous, as they soften up and will splinter if chewed on.

Re: Chicken wings - raw

Mine eat raw chicken, but drumsticks rather than wings, because they prefer them. They do eat some of the bone inside but not the whole thing. Its great for their teeth to chew threw sinue and bone, helps keep them clean as it would if they were in the wild.

Re: Chicken wings - raw

Thanks - that is reassuring.

Not worried about the bacteria - cats' stomachs can cope with that. As to dragging chicken wing around kitchen floor it is tiled so easy to clean and its a case of common sense hygene. Wash hands after handling, make sure kept to kitchen and floor only. Train cats to go to their eating place by taking wing away from the miscreant and putting it back where they should eat.

Was more worried about the bones but male crunched away and ate the tip and had loads of fun stretching the skin with his teeth. He hissed at the female a couple of times too when she got too close.

Wing is in the fridge til morning now.

Re: Chicken wings - raw

I hear that if you are to feed your cats and dogs raw meat to make sure you freeze it first then thaw and serve as this kills off any chance of worm, what says you?
