That was bas;ically the point I was making, unless you know the full history of the animal, you can't be 100% sure the food is cruelty free.

I am in Consumer Relations at Iams. We have an ethical responsibility to assure our products are safe and wholesome by feeding them to dogs and cats.

An animal rights organization continues to make misleading allegations about feeding studies performed for us at an external facility that we left in early 2003. These allegations not only are old, but also are highly sensationalized and laced with untruths.

Posing as an animal lover, an activist "undercover investigator" was hired for an Iams-funded role in the contract facility. She had responsibility for the socialization and enrichment of the dogs participating in Iams' feeding studies, and was paid to develop and implement a program to ensure that these dogs were well cared for. Rather than focusing on her assignment she captured video not of the scenes of the socialization and enrichment activities she was being paid to develop and deliver, but of dogs and cats that were housed in the same facility but not a part of Iams studies.

We do not fund studies that require the loss of life of cats or dogs. We conduct studies in just three kinds of locations: pet owners' homes, our Pet Health & Nutrition Center and locations where dogs and cats are already living (e.g. assistance dog organizations, kennels, etc). We test our foods with healthy pet cats or dogs in their homes or with pets who already have specific diseases or conditions.

Agreed, this is VERY old news. Iams have been forced to change things since this story broke nearly a decade ago. But still the story does the rounds. Iams is a great food, feed my animals it alot in the past.
Don't be fooled, ALL pet food manufacturers have skeletons in their cupboard, its just Iams were caught out BIG TIME.

I agree with you up to a point but I draw the line at great food

IAMS main ingredient is maize, a cheap filler. Definitely not a great food when compared to other dry foods which are actually cheaper than IAMS

Agreed. But Iams has alot less crap in it than Whiskas/Go-cat or supermarket brand. Iams is a premium brand, and if I ever run out of Applaws I wouldn't hesitate to feed Iams until I order some more Applaws. Whereas I would rather feed Iams than the truely awful Whiskas, which so many people feed their poor cats.
ps. I should have said its a great food compared to the rubbish WHISKAS/GO-CAT etc.

Why not get some Arden Grange or even Hi Life My Cotton is fed on Hi Life and wilkos do a 375g bag (only suitable for one cat really) for £1.50! Never thought they would do a good brand of food

Most people think Whiskas is good. Just goes to show marketing and pretty packaging isn't everything! If only people would read the ingredients
