Took ya long enough AJ, thought you'd have replied long before this about the raw feeding Seriously though, why are cats better equipped to deal with raw meat than dogs?

Hi Selk - where do u buy it from?

Also what meat do u feed raw? I assume not chicken due to salmonella???
I'll PM you the details of the Xtrabloom Wate

Yes, raw chicken wings ect. Raw minced beef & raw rabbit. The cats all love it. The kittens are weaned onto it from 3 weeks.

Bacteria like Salmonella survives and reproduces best in alkaline conditions. Cats have short acidic digestive systems which means the food passes through their systems quicker than humans and even dogs. Food, especially raw meat, doesn't sit around in the cats system long, so combined with acidity level, bacteria doesn't have time to reproduce.

Here's a couple of links with some good info on raw feeding cats:

Nice of you drop in and reply Just kidding thanks heaps for explaining that. I had no idea but it makes sense. I am considering trying raw with our (hopefully) forthcoming litter for the first time ever. Am currently on phone atm but have saved both lines to my Favs. so I can look at them properly tomorrow.

Re: Best food for weight gain

Raw meat is good for cats and even young kittens. Start kittens off with minced meat, as long as its fresh there is no problem.

A kitten will take to feeding raw easier than an older cat introduced to it later on. My advice would be to choose raw meat with a good amount of fat in it, not lean. Muscle meat such as heart is the preferred raw meat diet.
