Re: Bad kidneys, crf? bad heart, bad vet? Dietary problems..

Haven't yet but have been looking into it. And this is fine for senior cats? I guess I could try him... its alot to pay for if he won't like it or doesn't need it though. I'm guessing if CRF is most common in cats with kidney problems it probably would be worth looking at though...

.

Yes the trouble is the special veterinary diets are quite expensive and are not available in retail pet shops, but i bought a few from ebay, on the website you normally have to buy them by the dozen, could you not by a tin or pouch of renal diet from your vet, i don't know why they did not suggest it,as it is easier for the kidneys to process

Hi it will be CRF that was tested for at the vets- give them a phone if your unsure though.
I think i posted in the other thread about mixing what he likes with a renal diet.
Persist with it though, if he even eats some of the renal diet his protein intake will be less, making him feel less sick and more hungry.
It might be worth getting another appetite stimulant injection when you go back to the vets if you think it made any difference.

Also did they say what was wrong with his heart?

Stress to the vet that you want to do everything you can for him, and for more info on his conditions.
Its really sad they have just given up on him, but at least he has you to fight for him

It is important that your cat eats,so if he won't eat the special diet food give him what he would normally eat, also drinking is important too to avoid dehydration

Re: Bad kidneys, crf? bad heart, bad vet? Dietary problems..

I am going to fight for him. I love him, and I want to make sure he stays happy

I have no idea what the heart problem is, but in any case they said he has a bad heart murmur. The vet said it didn't look good at all though.

I think I might see about getting some RC renal food from the vet, maybe a pouch or two even to mix with Almo and see if he'll eat it. Might do him some good if he's eating some of it at least.

Re: Bad kidneys, crf? bad heart, bad vet? Dietary problems..

Well, we have a vet appointment on Thursday so we're gonna give him a proper check up and I'm gonna get the low-down on blood results.

Bailey really likes chicken, at the moment we're feeding him Almo Nature until I can get to the vet to get some renal food possibly, or get some diet advice.. apparently its 75% meat and hasn't got any dirivitives or phosphorus or anything in it. He's not doing amazingly much better, poor boy drinks like a fish and pees like a horse and his stools are still quite soft but as soon as I get the results I'm gonna see about getting some tablets for him.

Thanks for asking though
