Kittens getting the snip

Ahh my two little troublemakers will be getting snipped in a few hours today, im really dreading it as i'm worried something will go wrong- even though I know its a totally routine operation!!

Aww I just want to be there with them, bless- any one got any tips on the after care? i've taken the day off work to be with them for the day! I have a boy and a girl btw, see sig, also when will the fur grow back? Tabitha is long haired!

Re: Kittens getting the snip

Hi, hope it all goes well, which I'm sure it will. One of mine was done yesterday and I felt sick all day! She's still very drowsy now, but they've done a very good, neat job of the op and stitches.

Re: Kittens getting the snip

Haven't done my little girl yet, her ops coming soon - (and haven't had to take a queen in for spaying for about 8 years so memory's hazy on that one, I'll prob be posting in a flap when the time comes) but Harry after his snip was pretty much full of beans straightaway! His op was at 9am, I picked him up at about 11.20 and his eyes were quite dilated and his tail was a bit between his legs but aside from that he was meowing most of the way home... when he got back he wolfed down some food straightaway, had a scrap with the telephone lead and proceeded to spend about 45 minutes pouncing on his sister and kicking her in the head! I'm sure girls might need a bit more rest than that and of course they have stitches to look after so it might be best to prevent rough playfighting at fisrt for her sake but from memory my Carmen was up on her feet quicker than I expected too.
Best of luck x be brave x you're doing them both a big favour and I'm sure they'll be fine x and I got to say I felt better about it after seeing all the advertised rescue cats and kittens in the vets when I took Harry in x

PS your cats are gorgeous xxxx

Re: Kittens getting the snip

I've had my two boys and two girls all sterilized and really all you need to do is check on them for a few days to make sure that no infection develops. For the girls the vet just had me check the stitches, make sure the area stayed clean and apply a little hydrogen peroxide solution for a few days. All went well and I didn't have any problems. The boys are even easier and they should be bouncing around again shortly after they get home.

I'm sure your vet will be happy to answer all your concerns before you take them home and everything should be just fine. I think my vet wanted to choke me with my first guy I brought in. I must have called 5 times that day to see how he was doing. lol I calmed down with the next three though. You still worry however, that's just a mom's job.

Re: Kittens getting the snip

My two boys were done about a month ago and like I was worried sick! Picked them up at 6ish and I'm not joking, you would never of guessed they had been at the vets!! They were playing and eating and just same as normal.

Think it's harder on the girls, my girl of 15 years that I lost in the summer was poorly for about 2/3 days after.
