Orijen

Am considering swapping the girls’ dry food from Royal Canin to Orijen. I know that Orijen has better content, but its quite a lot more money than RC, so just wondered if anyone that’s used it thinks its worth the extra?

Re: Orijen

I usually feed my girl Royal Canin (and naturediet) either medium or medium sensible, and I got some Orijen samples (not free sadly!!) from Discover dogs at the weekend to go in treatballs and the like. It sure is pricey, but then Royal Canin isn't one of the cheaper ones is it?

I would say if your dog is happy and healthy on Royal Canin then don't change it. My girl's coat is amazing and people always comment on how soft it is, RC has some good oils and vitamins in there, and I rate it myself.

E2a I didn't look at the forum, and all of the above applies to dogs, I'm sorry! But, RC cat is a big seller in my friends shop and people like it.

Re: Orijen

I'd say technically Orijen is a better food as it has a very high meat content. Isn't it something like 80-90%? I think Royal canin also contains grains and Orijen doesn't

But for some reason all the cats I've tried Orijen on they've turned their noses up at it. I tried the chicken flavour and the white fish. Didn't go down well here.

Who knows might be a different story for you.

Re: Orijen

Economically Orijen for cats is a fair price!

For the average weight adult cat, 45g daily feeding amount.

A 7kg bag is £36.

155 servings.

Re: Orijen

Orijen is 'good' as far as dry food goes. I fed it before I started feeding raw, and my cat ate it ok.

Have you considered just cutting the dry out, and feeding wet instead? That's even better than feeding a 'premium' dry food.

Re: Orijen

I feed it to mine and she's absolutely gleaming, but then she's only young so I guess it doesn't say much (Jasper I've not had long enough to really tell). They're both growing like weeds though which has got to be a good thing. THere will always be people on this board who will reply to threads like these saying all dry is inherantly bad and you should feed wet instead, but I know it's not practical for everyone - it certainly isn't for me. I'm out at work for 10 hours a day and want to have something down for them to eat while I'm gona and wet spoils where dry doesn't so I feed raw breakfast and dinner and Orijen down the rest of the time.

I spent a lot of time researching before picking my dry and would agree with you on it being 'on paper' better than RC - I wasn't comfortable with the grains, and while RC's 40% meat is head and shoulders above the regular 4% crap it's still not that high really. Also it's not quite as expensive as it looks, as your kitties are likely to about about two thirds as much Orijen as they did RC.

Re: Orijen

If you are thinking of using Orijen why not try your cat on Applaws dry. It is like Orijen but better. It contains no cereals just 80% pure English bread chickens with 20% vegetables and natural extracts such as cranberry, citrus & rosmary extracts instead of any nasty presevatives. It contains Yucca which naturaly reduces the odour of the cats urine. Salmon oil which is rich in Omega 3 & 6 and a special blend of natural plant fibres to help reduce the build up of fur balls. My cat loves it and she is 18 years old. If you telephone them they will even send you out a free sample Freephone: 0800 083 0599
