Sudden Death of Kittens

Hi all,

My cat gave birth to 4 kittens around 4 weeks ago. They've been doing great up until yesterday. I noticed the Mum backing away and leaving them abit more as the day went on - I went to check on one and found it dead. I was quite shocked as they had been playing just a few hours earlier. Not sure what had happened I kept checking up on them. A few hours later the 2nd one started acting weird. It lay on the floor and starting breathing heavily, then died.

The other two were doing great, despite two dying. I've been checking on them all day but these two are acting the same way as the previous two now and I think there going to die too. I was going to take them to the vet but they were doing great, I didn't think anything could possibly be wrong with them but now it seems to be too late. What the hell could have happened?! They were doing so well and looked so healthy. They were still feeding off there Mum - One thing I have noticed is they seem to smell of a weird odur. It's hard to describe the smell but it's quite weird.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sam

Re: Sudden Death of Kittens

I would go RIGHT NOW, rather than post on here.

Prompt treatment could save the life of the remaining kitten.

I'm not to sure. She's been out occasionally but apart from that she's only (that im aware of) ate cat food. My Mum has took the remaining kitten to the vets but it's not looking promising atall.

Re: Sudden Death of Kittens

Sorry for your loss, you should get a PM done on one of the dead babies as you need to know what caused this.

Re: Sudden Death of Kittens

Poison, surely. I am sorry! That odour has to mean something though and I bet it's a classic clinical indicator of soemthing. Can you not identify the smell at all?

Daft as though it may sound sounds as though something that mum has observed is affecting the kittens.
