They were still feeding from the Mum, soon to be onto water/solids. They was a discharge on two of them. My Mum said the last one seemed to have a small fit before going.

I'm so sorry about that, poor little babies.

You really should get a PM done and fluids analyzed, this is a mystery that needs an answer.

It does sound as though they've been poisoned, perhaps through something mum ate or drunk?

I'm used to babies dying suddenly in the first week and have lost a few older ones but normally after they've been ill for a while, this is weird.

Re: Sudden Death of Kittens

The only thing other than poison that I know of which kills this quickly is Panleukapoenia, but you would get diarhorrea everywhere with that - even if Mum was still cleaning them up you'd expect to see signs of it. Also at that age they would normally be covered by Mum's immunity still, 6 or 7 weeks and it would be another matter. I assume Mum is vaccinated but even if not, if she had panleukapoenia she herself would be very sick. And I don't see that would explain the strange smell.

Do please let us know when you have the PM result.

Liz
