Feline Herpes Virus-1 (FHV-1)

My poor puss has Feline Herpes Virus-1 (FHV-1) so he has bouts of flu three to four times a year. The vet has recommended Lysine to help with the symptoms.

Has anyone tried lysine?
Does it help?
What Lysine is best? - there are so many brands?

Has anyone got anything else that will help ease his symptoms? ( Sneezing, shivering, weightloss, runny nose, gungy eyes)

Re: Feline Herpes Virus-1 (FHV-1)

Lysine can work with some cats, although not all. You can just use lysine from the health food shop - just make sure its pure lysine only (with no other added extras!) Recommended dosage is 250mg a day as a maintenance dose, with 500g per day during a flare up. I used to get my lysine from here https://www.yourhealthfoodstore.co.u..._l_lysine.html its in capsule form which you just open and sprinkle on food. There is also a veterinary brand called Enisyl F and its in paste form, but I havent tried that one Enisyl-F Oral Paste For Cats 100ml - £12.95

I found homeopathic remedies worked better for my 2 cats with herpesvirus, so it might be worth seeing if your vet can refer you - or you can find homeopathic vets here, see if theres one in your area BAHVS - Homeopathy Works

Hi mochamoo

I think adding L-Lysine to your cats food would be the best option. It stops the symptoms as long as it is used every day, I use it for my cats just as an immunity booster & have read about it helping with the herpes virus. I think I got mine from iherb, found it on the net as really you need just the L-Lysine as I have been informed some of them can contain other things harmful to cats. The product from iherb is a powder & has nothing else in it so it is safe for cats. Here is the link iHerb.com - Vitamins, Supplements & Natural Health Products look under L for the L-Lysine under now foods think there it is the 1LB in powder form. Hope this helps you

Re: Feline Herpes Virus-1 (FHV-1)

Thank you x

I've ordered one of each from Ambercats and Abooksigun posts will try everything!. I really hate seeing him when he's poorly, other than the antibiotic injection (even the vets cant get him to take pills) there is nothing I've been able to do to make him better...will ask about the homeopathy aswell.
