Re: should I be getting worried?

There is always the chance that female cats will escape when they are in season though as they are hell bent to find a mate so you definately did the right thing. My girl is going to be a house cat but I am getting her speyed in a couple of weeks I feel your pain at the moment. Let us know how you get on at the vets xxxx

Re: should I be getting worried?

update....she is de hydrated, she has gone from 2.31kg to2.06kg in 3 days she was thoroughly checked ,heart rate ,temp etc there was no infection round the wound site she was given a different antibiotic and i've got to syringe feed her some a/d prescription stuff and some anti diarreah stuff. Vet said no point going to all that trouble getting it in, for it to come staight back out.Already had a go at feeding, she was covered in it.Just gonna give her half an hour to make sure she isn't sick, then me and my two nurses(husband &son)will have another go

Re: should I be getting worried?

Good luck with feeding her and hope it helps her turn the corner. Did the vet give you any idea why this has happened? xxx

Re: should I be getting worried?

If she is clinically dehydrated I would have thought she needs a drip. Syringe feeding food will not be enough fluid to compensate for the dehydration.

If you cannot get enough fluid into her then you need to talk to the vet again.

Re: should I be getting worried?

she is less dehydrated now after literally force feeding her for two days and she has eaten some food willingly just now ,not much but it wasnt forced. After reading on here about whiskas i gave them better stuff but I remember someone likening it to macdonalds and she ate a bit I havn't stopped smiling for the last 30 minutes

Re: should I be getting worried?

Glad to hear it And if it goes any way to reassuring you that you did the right thing spaying her, an unneutered, unmated girl will call and call and call endlessly and start shedding weight and potentially get very very ill. So your only alternative to having her spayed would have been to put her on Ovarid ('the pill' for cats) for the whole of the rest of her life which has problems of its own. You haven't put her through this for nothing, you did the right thing I'm glad she's recovering well now!

Re: should I be getting worried?

I would spoil her rotten with lots of little bits of cooked chicken, tuna and good quality wet food such as Hi-Life. Just try tempting her every couple of hours and I am sure in a few more days she will get her appetite back and put weight back on slowly. So pleased she is on the mend.

Re: should I be getting worried?

I am amazed, firstly at how quickly my little girl lost weight after she was spayed, quite seriously so after not eating for two days and then having to be force fed for two days, but even more amazing is how quickly she bounced back after only 2 days, she is even starting to look podgy again
