Wet Poos

I've noticed some wet like poos this past week in the litter boxs and have finally narrowed it down to Tidbit.

Any Ideas of why she could be having these wet poos. I cant think of anything thats changed.

It just hit me that she may be getting into the composting bucket were we throw any uneaten food in and eating it. I'm gonna find a new hiding spot for it. Is there anything I could give her that might make her tum feel better?

Thanks.

Re: Wet Poos

I'm sorry i dont know tidbit so its hard to say.

A few questions first maybe?

how old is he/she
is she neutered/entire (if and female has she recently had kittens or is pregnant?)
is she an indoor or outdoor cat
what food is she on
Is she up to day on worming and flea treatments, if so what brands do you use and when was she last wormed?

sorry for all the questions. Sometimes soft poos could be due to a girl calling or pregnancy. I could be due to the diet, or she could have picked something up from outside.

Of course, if they are VERY runny, contain blood or your cat appears ill in other ways (temperature, lethargy, sickness, pain) then you need to get to a vet NOW!

6 months old

No shes not fixed. And shes never been pregnant.

is she an indoor or outdoor cat

Strictly indoor

what food is she on

She is on a Holistic Dry food been on it since mid july. She gets 1/2 a can of wet friskies (purna) catfood

Is she up to day on worming and flea treatments, if so what brands do you use and when was she last wormed?

She was last wormed around july/august. I havent wormed her myself as the vet did it.

She has been acting somewhat friskie but not like Decker did when she came into heat so I've been somewhat skeptical shes in heat.

Her poos are normal just wet and runny. Shes been acting normal, chasing, playing, sleeping, eating, a bit more vocal.

Thanks for helping.

Re: Wet Poos

Hiya

Well from what i can see she is due another worming around now, so that would be my first point of call.

Each female cat is different when calling, some yowl the house down and drive their owners insane for a week, others hardly advertise the fact that they are in call. At 6months she would be about right for her first call too.

With regards to the canned food. Friskies isnt really ideal, there are other wet foods out there which work out similar in the pocket but contain much higher meat percentage and of higher quality. Hilife in all supermarkets, Feline feyre in asda, tecos select (i think thats what its called) and sainsburys encore are all supermarket brands which are of much better quality. Dry food and cheap wet foods are full of fillers and cereals. Cats do not need this at all, and it can cause upset tummys.

Occasionally the manufacturers also change their recipe slightly, and this can lead to more tummy upsets.

If i were you i would get her wormed properly now, and then look at improving the wet food you feed when her bowels have settled. If she is calling she may have a "runny" spell each time she calls.

Hope that helps x

How often should I be worming them. I've only ever had to worm Horris myself. And since their indoors I didnt think there would be a problem

Decker yowled the house down, butt in the air , the whole nine yards lol

Yeh I've read up on the dry food and wet food debate. They were on purnia dry food for indoor cats. I then changed them on this holistic brand which has no fillers, real low ash meat, and I have seen vast improvements. I've tried a wet food that was supposed to be good but the cats just didnt take an interest in it and it was pretty expensive. I'll see if I can convince my mom to take me outta town later this week to a bigger petstore because ours dont have much variety.

I hoping next year when I move out to slowly introduce them onto a raw diet but right now thats not feasably. Thanks again.

Re: Wet Poos

I wormed my cats every month, but then i have fostered pregnant cats and kittens for a long time and had all manner of unknown things coming into the house.

Now i am not fostering for a while, i worm every 3 months. I use a spot on flea and worming treatment in one (advantix or advocate - can never remember which without getting the packet), and i top up with panacur soloution because it covers alot more paracites than the spot ons do.

Panacur soloution is a liquid, so i give it via syringe, i find it alot easier to give than a tablet. They also make a paste, so perhaps thats another alternative to tablets.
