Question Cats eyes changing colour?

I have a 4yr old Exotic short haired Blue point Persian male
Who has always had stunning blue eyes since we got him at
the beginning of the year. He has been a bit off his
food for a couple of days but started eating again this morning.
But he looked up at me and i was a bit surprised to see
his eyes were yellow. Does anyone know how this might have happened
and if something is wrong with him?? I would be grateful
for any replys.

Are you sure it wasn't just the way the light was? Are they yellow in every light?

I'd get him to the vet.

I agree with Lorilu, I think, given that he's been off his food a bit and this change of eye colour, it would be best to get a him checked at the vets, or perhaps give the vet a call and explain about the eye colour change - and he can then tell you if he thinks he needs to be seen.

Re: Cats eyes changing colour?

You should get him to the vet a.s.a.p - change of eye colour from blue to yellow could be a sign of jaundice. Definitely not normal. Are his gums/inside his ears tinged with yellow?

hope he will be OK.

I don't wish to be alarmist but I found this article on change of eye colour
Eye Problems In Cats by Anita Hampton
and I would echo the other postings that you take your cat to the vet as soon as you are able. It may not be any of the things in the article but still worth a vet visit to put your mind at rest.

I sincerely hope he is okay. Keep us updated.

For anyone having trouble opening this link here is the section pertaining to this thread topic, and yes, reading this I would not hesitate another moment getting the cat to the vet

The iris is the structure which gives the eye its color, ranging from pink in albinos, to blue in Siamese, through all shades of yellows, coppers and greens. The iris is a muscular structure which contracts and expands in order to vary the amount of light which passes through to the back of the eye.

It has very delicate blood vessels and if a claw has managed to pierce through the cornea to the iris, the bleeding can be very dramatic.

Some of the more unpleasant feline infections, Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) virus, Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and toxoplasmosis can all cause disease in the iris.

The first sign an owner may notice is a change in color of the eye.

Scary. Please let us know what happens. What's his name?
