Conjunctivitus in cats

Hi,

I took Tosca (7 months) and Sammy (16 weeks) to the vets tonight. Tosca has not seemed himself and his eyes are watery and have discharge. The vet examined him and told me he has conjunctivitus which has been brought on by the cat flu he had!!! He is on a course of antibiotics for 10 days. I have to take him back after the course to make sure it has cleared up and hopefully he has not got something serious. Sammy had a vet check and he is fine!

Re: Conjunctivitus in cats

I would think that after the course of tablets he will be ok, my cat has had this before following on from flu and she was fine

Re: Conjunctivitus in cats

Timmy had this after a bout of flu and he has it again now, I am treating with eye drops. It seems to be all fine and I am taking it as just one of those things

Re: Conjunctivitus in cats

Repeat eye infections could mean the cat has the herpes virus. the supplement l-lysine controls out breaks of the herpes.

Often antibiotic seem to clear up the infection but it comes back. This is because the herpes outbreak goes into secondary infection. The antibiotic does not cure the herpes, only the secondary infection.

Testing for herpes is a simple inexpensive swab test.

In addition, if the cats have not been tested, they should be tested for FeLV/HIV.

Re: Conjunctivitus in cats

Thanks for all your replies. The vet said he will check him over and he may have to have the tests to be on the safe side. I will let you all know.

Thanks again
