My Boys have the squits!!!!

Stan and Ollie have had the runs now for a few days and so it's off to the vets with them later tongight. They are both fine in themselves and eating, drinkking and playing etc but oh their poo's are so runny!!! With Ollie this is made worse as he is a Maine Coon and so I am constantly cleaning him up as it gets all over his bum and back legs!!! Urghhh

I did try changing their food about a week to 10 days ago but ended up going back onto the Hi LIfe pouches and cooked chicken as this is when the runny poo's started. So I have a cupboard full of a) Hill Science Plan Kitten tins and P@H food going to waste, might drop it off at the local cats protection.

Stan's poos are a bit firmer than Ollies but I'm taking them both to vets tongiht just to be sure!

They have a show in two weeks and so I want to make sure they are alright for that.

Anyway will let you know what the vet says.
Allison

Re: My Boys have the squits!!!!

Hi-life gave my cats stinky poops and especially Tia who had a sensitive stomach so I had to try a few foods out and she does great now on Applaws and Arden Grange.

Hope you get on OK at the vet, I would of probably just fed plain chicken for a few days just to firm it up a bit.

Re: My Boys have the squits!!!!

Hi
yes I agree that maybe I am running to the vets a bit fast we all know how they like to get you in and charge for the slightest thing!!!lol Saying that if they didn't have their first GCCF show in two weeks I would maybe give it a bit longer.

I have had them on cooked chicken with the Hi Life ouches and this was fine before my brain storm to chaneg thier diet!!! Silly me!!!

They do also have Hills Science Plan dry which is available all the time for them, they have the wet in the morning and at teatime. Think if when I get home tonight the poops look ok in the litter tray from today I might just cancel the appointment with the vet and then see how they get on.

It's the cleaning of Ollies bum all the time that is a bit of a pain too! I know he can't help it but after cleaning it off then have to brush it all through and he is such a cuddly boy and loves to be on me all the time especially up around my neck etc it's takes some of the pleasure away when I've just cleaned all that poop off!!!lol

I just wish I'd not bothered trying to change it all now!!!
Thanks for reply and will post what happens tongiht!

Re: My Boys have the squits!!!!

HI well we went to the vets and she gave Ollie an anit inflamitary injection just to help settle his tum and he does seem better. His temp was fine etc. Poos still a bit loose but they ahve both been fine in themselves - well up until this monring!!!!!!!!!!

When I got up this morning one of them had been sick and it wasn't long before we could see that Stan just wasn't feeling too good! He normally eats for england and today was the first time I have ever seen him turn his nose up to his food. He was sick again but this time was just clear slimey liquid. He is defiantly not himself and you can tell he's just not feeling too good.

Ollie on the hand is fine now and was running aorund like a mad cat!

Stan was fine last night his usual crazy self but then this monring he's real poorly! I'm wondering if he has eaten something he shouldn't of although it's Ollie that is always eating bit not Stan he normally just loves his food. I know STan is an avid spider hunter and we have had some HUGE ones these past few weeks, could a very large spider of made him sick?

Anyway I didn't want to get into panic mode this morning so have had to come to work but think I will have to nip home at dinner as I am so worried about him, it is just so out of character for him!

If he's not right will then have to have yet another expensive trip down the vets

Will let you know what happens

Re: My Boys have the squits!!!!

sorry to hear that, actually Magik was sick last night a few times, I thought it might of been stress as next door had fireworks going off although he seems better today.

Maybe him being sick is a reaction to the injection they gave him? Is he still on plain cooked chicken or are you feeding him something else? I would try and stick with just the chicken & see if that helps.

I hope he perks up a bit later

Re: My Boys have the squits!!!!

My kittens had sensitive tums when I first got them and I was reccomended i/d feline and a nutritional suppliment called diarsanyl and it did sort them out, then I gradually changed them onto kitten hi-life and touch wood they seem to be ok now.

Re: My Boys have the squits!!!!

One of my girls has had loose stinky bowel movements for a while. She was eating Royal Canin Persian, but I tried her on Hills. I went to Pets at Home and picked up a bag of Pro Plan Delicate Kitten (she had Kittens at the mo) and shes sorted! I guess its just trial and error. She will be staying on this - no more stinking the whole house out in the middle of the night!

Re: My Boys have the squits!!!!

Well after worrying all day yesterday left work early expecting a visit to the vets but when I got home Stan was fine.
Today Ollie has been sick once but he's fine now too so must of been a 24 hour bug??? Can cats get these???

I stopped all wet food for now and they are just on the Hill dry. Will give it a day or two and then try the puches again but want the poos 100% right first and if it starts again then I'll know it's the wet Hi Life pouches.

It does seem like a bug though for one to have it then the other. Saying that they haven't been anywhere and are indoor cats so bit of a mystery!

They have a show next sat so hope they'll be ok for then.

What is starnge though is that I was ill all last weekend with a flu/cold and haven't been right all week myself. Think I've been left with a chest infection and so will have to ring docs on Monday as if I still feel like this next week won't be up to a full show day! I just feel so weak and can't seem to get going whcih isn't like me. Saying that work for ourselves so have had to go to work etc whcih doesn't help when I should of been resting.

Re: My Boys have the squits!!!!

Sorry to hear you arent well, I think considering the past couple of weeks it may be best to cancel the show, although its easier for me to say!

Hope you feel better soon and the kitties tummies have settled now
