Exclamation Re: Arghhh I feel so guilty...

Okay kitten is fine and seems okay, but however hasn't fed or watered, just slept most of the day...I am worried obvoiusly about dehydration. I am unable to get any lactol due to my work committments and due to pets at home not doing next day delivery for the timebeing.... can you suggest what I can use or do instead? what about kitten milk (cat milk), will that do as a stop gap until I can get some...

Advice please....

Re: Arghhh I feel so guilty...

As a temporary measure you can use half evaporated milk half water. Or if you can get to a Tescos, try the cartons of kitten milk they do in blue cartons. Its made from goats milk and cream and has added taurine and vits

Re: Arghhh I feel so guilty...

This morning, we are feeding from mum.... which is a great sign.... still very wobbly on it's feet, which doesn't help when bowled over by brothers and sisters! But it is playing and active.... So, lucky cat... but I think I will keep this one rather than rehome him.... (I planned to keep one of the litter anyway, but looks like it could be two).

What did the vet say? I would be worried that there could be internal injuries, and slowly bleeding internally....Or even broken bones...

Re: Arghhh I feel so guilty...

The vet was very erm, erm sit on the fence type....the vet said if not fed in 24hrs then pts.... which it has now done... so that's okay...

Had a good feel and said well nothing seems broken and not uncomfortable to touch... and as it was so young it would heal quickly if there was any problems.
I normally see the lady vets from this practice but this time it was a man... and not the one who treated my scarf... and his personnel skills were not great!

He wasn't overly concerned in either direction as to what to do... so I took that as it will be okay!

It was a very non-committal answer... not sure if he had an off day or what, but ... this morning kitten is feeding and play fighting with siblings... so apart from being a little wobbly on back legs, still managing to fight!

Re: Arghhh I feel so guilty...

I opened a door once and found a kitten lying on its side trembling, thought it was dead at first. He was fine a few hours later, just badly shocked having presumably collided with the door. These things happen. I'm sure the little one will be fine now.

Re: Arghhh I feel so guilty...

Splat - as we have now called the kitten....!!!.... was first to rush out of the cage to me this morning.... meowing and purring too.... So pleased, but still think there is a bit of damage to the back end... so looks like I'll be keeping another kitten... my house is full of waifs and strays.... I seem to have gained another cat today... my friends Bengal... (yes, pure Bengal) visits my recyling bin to check I have cleaned my cat tins properly...! But today he/she tried to come through the cat flap!

Uh oh....
