Re: Raw chicken wings

Raw meat is absoloutly fine for cats.

As for the age... well ive been fostering cats and kittens for many years. Kittens are weaned directly onto raw in my house

Re: Raw chicken wings

Hi,

I tried my 12 yr old cat on raw chicken wings for the first time yesterday, she was like AN ANIMAL! Course she is a very robust little cat and has fought various bouts of s & d and is always persuaded to eat something. I noticed a difference in her motion immediately, still not right, but better. Also, she is on steroids, but still, after eating the raw meat, she didnt scream for food all day and seemed actually to be contented for the first time in years. She had a good night and did not have any accidents.

The local supermarkets here in Scotland sell the very things cat lovers need i.e. small packets (and large ones) of chicken wings, chicken hearts and livers, scabby looking beef (not prime meat) and all of these things the top cat advisers have said are good for your cat.

Also, try getting some antibiotics (Flagyl) from your vet and a week's worth of steroids (Prednisolone 1mg) - thereafter a good probiotic, either from the vet (costs an arm and leg) or buy simple Slippery Elm (Native American gut clamer) and smear a small amount on the meat.

Best of luck

Sarah (for Popsie) p.s. Popsie is short for Popsicle

Hiya smnisbet

I really wouldnt reccomend anyone advising someone to get their cat steroids or antibiots. They are drugs which should only ever be given under a vets instructions. Some conditions could contraindicate the antibiots and steroids your suggesting, a cat may already be on another treatment and the combination of drugs could prove fatal.

A cat fed a properly balanced raw diet, shouldnt ever need supplementing with antibiotics or steroids!

Also, I really wouldnt reccomend someone starting out on a raw diet to just buy items from the supermarket and hope for the best. Getting a properly balanced diet for a cat is quite an art, and to get it wrong can have devestating effects.

I make my own cats diets now, however thats after years of study and my experience in the science and veterinary field.

I would suggest anyone thinking of switching to an exclusively raw or almost fully raw diet to buy their diet pre-made from one of the reputable companies available on the internet. foood 4 cats being one of the best i believe.

I hope i havent offended you, thats not my intention. But I do think advising about veterinary prescription drugs for a raw diet is not only uneccessary but potentially very dangerous.

Re: Raw chicken wings

When I first started feeding chicken wings I bashed them with a rolling pin and cut them in to chunks, they went down a treat after a few days of eating them like this we progressed to who wings and have never looked back.

The bashing prevented her from swallowing the bones whole as she was quite a greedy eater at that time.

Re: Raw chicken wings

My cats love chicken wings, I give them a couple of times a week and they manage them whole now.

I am one of the lucky ones that can get chicken direct from the chicken factory in either whole or what ever portions I want and mega cheap compared to the shops

Re: Raw chicken wings

All this has definitely inspired me to try chicken wings on my cats but I'm still searching for the flaming things. Admittedly I did go past a butchers shop yesterday and I looked in the window but I have not been in a butchers for about 45 years, when my gran used to send me, and I just couldn't bring myself to set foot in there (squeamish veggie, shouldn't have cats, I know).

Ive seen them plenty of times n the supermarkets. I dont buy my meat (let alone the cats and dogs ) from a supermarket though so cant comment on prices etc.

Flagyl (metronidazole) isn't really a good idea - I take it you are thinking in terms of Giardia being a cause of s & d? In which case Panacur is proven to be better at tackling giardia and if used as a normal regular worming routine, will tackle that anyway. Flagyl can cause other issues.

A probiotic such as Pro Kolin is also very helpful, it's available online with no prescription.

Try a large supermarket for chicken wings - Tesco or Asda do them very cheaply. Large packet (a kilo or so) around £2.

Re: Raw chicken wings

I have never given my cat raw meat but thanks to this thread i'm going to give it a go, i was shocked to see just how little meat they are actually getting from tinned cat food. Am i right in thinking i could just get a big packet from supermarket or butchers give her 1 then freeze the rest the defrosting before i give her another one. Also do i take out the bbones or is she allowed to eat them.
