Poorly Cat

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this site and after some advice. My 10 month old cat Desmond has always been VERY greedy. He cries for food constantly despite being fed three times a day. He steals food whenever he gets the chance and a month ago ripped open a loaf of bread and ate half of it during the night!

On Sunday I wormed him using Drontal tablets. I broke one tablet in half and put it in his food. He ate one half with no problem but found the other half and refused to eat it. Myself and my partner tried to make him swallow it but we couldn't and he started foaming at the mouth and slobbering. I was worried about this but five minutes later he was fine and continued eating his food.

He has been eating the same as usual but on Wednesday night he woke us up as he was very sick on our bedroom floor. There was a lot of meat in it as though a packet had been tipped onto the carpet, he also vomited some bile with grass in it. The next day we found another patch of bile downstairs. On Thursday he seemed fine and was chasing a fly around the house, however only ate half his breakfast. Afterwards he wanted to go out as usual. When I let him in a few hours later he ran straight to his bowl and ate the remainder of his breakfast. My partner came in from work and Desmond (the cat) went out to play and when I came home later that night he came in with me, however he didn't cry for his tea which was VERY strange! I decided not to feed him to give his stomach a rest and he spent the night curled up asleep on the landing. He didn't try to come into our bedroom even though the door was open and seemed very lethargic.

This morning when we got up I put a few biscuits in his bowl as I thought these would be easier than meat on his stomach but he wouldn't eat them. He wanted to go outside so we let him. When we called him back in he went straight upstairs to sleep and never went near his food bowl. Tonight I decided to give him some meat as he hasn't eaten all day. He seemed interested when I was putting it out and meowed but when I put it down he sniffed it and walked away. All he wants to do is sleep which is not like him!

I'm going to take him to the vets in the morning but wondered if anyone has any experience of what could be wrong with him?
Sorry for the long post!
Thank you so much for reading.
Jen

Re: Poorly Cat

Sounds as though he's eaten something that disagreed with him.
Cats often eat grass to make themselves sick if they have stomach ache.
The vet will probably give him a jab to settle his stomach and recommend a light diet for a few days.
Good luck tomorrow

Re: Poorly Cat

Agree with Lilbird he may have eaten something that disagreed with him or perhaps picked up a virus. Whilst you are at the vets you could perhaps ask them to worm him for you.

A light diet of cooked white fish (with/withour boiled rice) and or cooked chicken for 24 hours may help.

Let us know how you get on.

By the way Adovcate is a spot-on treatment for fleas and worms so you may want to consider that instead of tablets!
