Unhappy problem with bowels

My lady cat is about 15 years old and still very lively. She has no problem with going out into the garden through the flap. However for the past 2 years she has taken to poo inside either on carpet or wooden floors, in corners, dark places etc. Until very recently she was not peeing inside at all but now we have discovered wee on carpets, seperate from poos and it smells awful. How can we encourage her to go outsde for all? We try to keep her just in the kitchen but she escapes elsewhere.

Re: problem with bowels

Have you provided her with a litter tray? At 15 she may be feeling her age a bit and may feel vulnerable outside if she is trying to wee or pooh especially if there are other cats close by. You may need to experiment with different litters and perhaps it may be a good idea to get her a covered tray. At her age she may need to go a bit more so it makes sense to proide an indoor litter tray for her.
