Cat with increased hunger

Hiya

Our cat is now 11 years old, and she was always a fussy eater and quite picky. She had her teeth cleaned and a few taken out because of gingivitis (sp?), and she now eats like a horse. She's having 2 1/2 small trays of Sheba every day, split into 4 meals over the day, but she still complains that she's hungry all the time. She had a blood test before she had her teeth cleaned, and it was all fine. Is this something we should worry about, or is it something to be pleased about? She's always been a skinny little thing, but she's now gaining weight and her coat is much better condition.

Re: Cat with increased hunger

It sounds like a good thing that your kitty is now eating more. Perhaps her mouth was hurting before which had a detrimental effect to her appetite

Re: Cat with increased hunger

It could be that the condition your cats teeth was in was causing some discomfort upon eating. Keep an eye on her to make sure she is putting weight on with all this eating. My cat started eating everything in sight and was losing weight, turned out she had an overactive thyroid. But if your cats weight is stable or she's putting it on, it will probably be her teeth that were preventing her from eating before.

thank you. we'll keep an eye on her weight then, but she already looks plumper.

When was she last wormed? If it has been a while I would worm her but it could just be that her teeth were troubling her when she was eating.
