Blood in urine ..

Hi All,

Now the dark nights are drawing in Ollie isnt being let out as much and we have noticed that on several occasions now there is traces of 'fresh' blood in his urine in the litter tray (we use crystal city cat)

Now he isnt impressed at being kept in as you can imagine .. boys will be boys and his fan club and territory 'need' him (he is chopped) so he has been reluctant to use his litter tray although now he goes out he very rarely uses it .... So ..

Could him holding it in be causing this?
Could being on a RAW/ biscuit diet be causing this?

Oh and he seems to be going on average over a day? every couple of hours maybe? (Average being calculated roughly by two wee's before i leavae for work, three since ive been in this evening ... sorry a bit vague and maybe it isnt every couple of hours!)

He is two in August 2010 and has been on the RAW diet for the last couple of months but as he has been outside doing his business this is the first time we have noticed it so perhaps its been going on for longer?

Sorry for the long post and obviously the vets is closed now so i wont call them (And i will) until tomorrow.

Re: Blood in urine ..

Poor Ollie! Sorry can't help you but I would see a vet Asap.
Just could be an infection. My female had this once it was inflammation of the bladder.
Hope he gets well soon x

Re: Blood in urine ..

Just back from the vets and its cystitis (sp) more than likely caused by stress. Ollie is staying in a lot more now the dark nights are closing in on us and he isnt exactly climbing the window frames tryign to get out but he is vocally letting us know he isnt impressed (just like we arent impressed when he isnt home still and its gone midnight!)

So lots of tablets and some pain killers and he will just have to relax more and start using his tray. Its in the quietest possible location in the flat and we never disturb him but he has been holding onto his wee's because he wants to go out .... Oh happy days .... NOT!

Re: Blood in urine ..

Certainly sounds like he's stressed about not going out. I'd maybe add another tray in a different location plus think about plugging in some Feliway diffusers for the time being. But ultimately, if not going out is stressing him and causing cystitis, you might have to think about letting him come and go as before.

Re: Blood in urine ..

Hi

Yes i am purchasing a feliway this afternoon (can't believe how expensive they are, lol) and you know its Saturday tomorrow so he can go out first thing and sit outside all day if he wants, lol ... I just cant risk him going out late afternoon (1700) when i get home from work and then not rolling in until very late evening. We dont have a cat flap, he uses the lounge window so thats one factor. Secondly he is much more at risk of an RTA in the dark. And at this time of the year i dont want to take the risk with foxes. Food will be in greater demand and foxes will take more risks and i dont want that risk to be my beloved pet.
They are such a worry
Thanks for the 2nd litter tray tip .. I will dig it out and blow the dust off it
