Help.

Hello. I had a cat 1 years old. very playful. Like i use to throw a screwed up lottery ticket, and he would go and get it and bring it back! Anyways.

This morning i came down stairs, as usual the cat came to me and wanted to play. I grabbed a drink, went in the front room. My cat was laying on its side making a strange noise. I rushed to it and knew something was wrong. His tounge came out a bit of fome out of its mouth.. and it died.

Would could of caused this??

Sorry if i dont make much sense or my spelling isnt great, just a bit upset!

I didnt know what to do, i felt useless. watching my cat die.. only a year old!

Re: Help.

I am so sorry to hear you have lost your cat. Only a PM could ascertain the cause of death really. Had your cat been out all night? Could he have been hit by a car (normally if their claws are "scuffed" or broken this can be an indication). Assuming you have no plants or flowers that may be toxic to cats (i.e. lillies etc) it may perhaps have been a stroke. My only other thought is that is it likely he had bitten an electric cable and received a shock?

Sorry again to hear of your very sad loss.

Re: Help.

My cat was an indoor cat. We have no plants or flowers. and he was laying in the middle of the floor, No wires near him. He was a very playful cat. I felt so useless, was holding it, just watching it die, i couldnt do anything!

How will my other cat act now? I had 2 got them both at the same time.
Do i need to do anything for my other cat?

Re: Help.

Oh my goodness that is so awful sending hugs to you

I had a kitten that died suddenly and I never found out why so I know how frustrating it can be. Have a good look around the house/front room to see if there is anything that she could have picked up, maybe she choked on something.

As for your other cat I would dish out loads of cuddles over the next couple of days.

Re: Help.

Parents just took it to the vets, hopefully they can tell us what happened. Usually he eats his food in the morning in seconds. Today he hardly touched it. Was so quick, i came down, he came running to me.. 5seconds later it was in a different room on the floor making a moaning sound. 20seconds later it died. Was such a loving, comical cat. The cat we got left is so timid(not sure if thats spelt right)
Any ideas how/will this affect my other cat? Suprising how much it hurts when you lose a pet

thanks for the replys, i'll let ya know what the vets say.

Re: Help.

I wouldn't rush out immediately and get another cat - I would leave it a few weeks at least if you can. You may find your other cat will come out of his/her shell more now the other cat isn't around - especially of the cat you lost was more assertive.

Plenty of TLC, as already suggested, lots of fuss and attention and interaction by way of games to distract him/her.

Re: Help.

What a horrible thing to happen, I really feel for you. Could possibly have been his heart, for it to be so sudden like that.

Re: Help.

Spoke to the vets last night, they told me to contact them friday to find out any results. I have read a lot about sudden death in cats, cardiomyopathy and heartworm disease seems to be the cause. If my cat died from this, would it of been painful? Although it happened so fast, 30seconds max. I would hate to think my cat was in pain. Even tho it seemed unresponsive.

thanks again.

Re: Help.

Hey again, Spoke to the vets. As we got a postal strike they didnt have any results yet. They said they only found a small lump on my cats head. But was still waiting for results. My cat was always running around and jumping around. Banged its head a fair few times, but got right back up and carried on playing. So maybe it could of been very bad luck, was playing with the other cat, hit its head and died. Who knows!
Anyways The monday night before my cat died, it acted very scared of one of its whiskers, cowered backwards and ran off. Just now my other cat has done the same thing, was playing with some string, then cowered and ran off. Is this a sign? Do i need to panic?

thanks again!

Re: Help.

Sounds like a sudden trauma to me - is there any chance something could have fallen on him or hit him? I had a cat run over (when I was right there at the time) where the symptoms were exactly like this.
