Re: Help.

Mark,

Did you have a chance to look at his eyes--if you did--were they dilated?

Re: Help.

Nothing was near him. Only our other cat was sniffing him. His eyes was wide open and dilated. Bit confused as to what cat we're talking about now The one that died, his eyes was wide open and dilated. Our other cat, yesterday his eyes wasnt dilated when he acted scared.

This is a pic of my cat which died ;< Just under 18months old when i took this pic

We may get another kitten. We got 2 cats so they could keep each other company, isnt very nice outside so didnt want them to go outside. Our cat is very 'timid/nervous' Would he get along with a new kitten?

Re: Help.

Re: Help.

Hi Mark,

Sorry to hear about your loss, is it possible it was poisoned by some household cleaner. Do you use bleach? they can take in toxins through their paw pads. or do you use air fresheners like the glade candles? They are extremely toxic as they have essential oils in them.

I hope you get an answer to what happened to your beautiful puss. It must be a dreadful feeling to lose the cat so suddenly. I would not rush out to get another kitten just yet, firstly you need to ensure your other cat is ok. Allow the other cat time to grieve its loss. Keep an eye on him going off his food or see if there are any changes in behaviour. You want any illnesses ruled out by your vet before bringing in any newcomers!

Izzie

Re: Help.

Thanks for replying. The vet was almost certain it wasnt poisoned. She said we would of seen sickness/diarrhea. Although we do have glade plugins. That let out a smell every 12hours or so. We have been using these forever so it couldnt be that? Damn postal strike, we was told to call tomorrow and see if any results are back.

Our other cat seems lost, he isnt eating much at all. He never use to eat much tho, i do think his got wise to us. He ignores his food, so we give him treat biscuits and he has no problem eating them! I will post here when i know what it was.

thanks again!

Re: Help.

Hey again. Spoke to the vets. My cat had a heart problem..

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy / Congenital heart disease defect (im still waiting to collect the report)

I think is what they called it. He was born with it, Like a ticking time bomb :/ As my other cat was its brother i have to take him to the vets so they can run tests and scans on him. If he does have it too, then it can be treated but cannot be cured.

this sucks :<

Re: Help.

I'm so sorry for your loss sadly it can be hard to notice heart problems until they become apparent very quickly. At least you have some closure now as to what happened.

Hope your other cat is OK.

Re: Help.

Hi again, got a report today. Diagnosis: Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

A few things i dont have a clue on, i'll post here and if someone knows...

Lungs are congested and oedematous.
Remarkable congestion of the liver as evidence by dilation of sinusoids and pooling of blood.
Mild congestion in the spleen.

Hypoxia would have occurred in the terminal stages which is likely to cause a fit.
The main thing was a problem with his heart, thick lining of the left wall.
I hope this wasnt painful for my cat!

thanks for all your replys and kindness!

Re: Help.

I am so sorry for your loss. This really is tragic. I think you mentioned that him and your other cats were litter mates?

I'd advise you to take your healthy puss to the vets for some tests to rule out potential problems. For a piece of mind if anything else.

I am so sorry for you.
