Metal found in food4cats meat

Two weeks ago, I received the 'raw starter pack' from food4cats and was impressed until I noticed several small flecks of metal amongst the wild rabbit chunks. I thought it must be bullet residue and that I was just unlucky with this particular batch, but I have now found a much larger (baked bean size) lump of metal in the wild rabbit mince. As a life-long veggie, I have never eaten or prepared any wild animal meat before so this might sound really dumb, but am I right to be concerned? Or is it fairly common to find small pieces of metal? My kittens licked their bowls clean but fortunately they left this lump behind.

The wild rabbit I have had from the local farmers market has shot in it, but they are small round balls, nothing as big as a baked bean

Have you spoken to food 4 cats?
Would like to know what they say as I am now feeding Missy with their food, although she really doesn't like the rabbit.

Catlover2, I'm an insomniac! And Fizzy12, I haven't spoken to food4cats yet because I wanted to make sure that I wasn't over-reacting.

Re: Metal found in food4cats meat

I've found one or two bits of shot in the wild rabbit mince - it is a bit worrying, but as my cats didn't really like it, I don't order it now, i just order chicken mince and regular rabbit mince.

I don't think it's over reacting to complain- after all you'd have thought it would be easy enough to find metal in the meat and remove it. If it was me I'd be kicking up a stink and expecting my money back and a generous voucher for more of their products (valid until after they've improved their system)

Actually removing shot from rabbit, whether you mince it or buy it whole, is neigh on impossible and generally if you buy wild bunny it does tell you it is likely to contain shot. Their only failing is not saying on the website 'may contain shot' which they really should.

Re: Metal found in food4cats meat

I found some shots in the rabbit as well, which is the reason why I don't order from them anymore - that, and they mostly sell minced meat, which I don't use.

I've had countless deliveries of wild rabbit from Woldsway, and not once have I found shots in those, so it's definitely possible to get wild rabbit without metal in them. I've just had a look at their website and they say they only sell 'single shot rabbits' which is what makes the difference I guess!
