Dry food advice needed.

I have two cats, feed them applaws wet food and James Wellbeloved dry.

To my shame I used to feed them Iams, but my youngest cat was over grooming his stomach and the vet suggested he could have developed an allergy to something in his food, so after a little research I discovered how terrible Iams was and changed them to JWB and Applaws.

I'm delighted to say the over grooming has stopped and the cats are doing really well. Now I recently read JWB has been bought by mars and I can't help but thinking it'll only be a matter of time before they start messing with ingredients so it's cheaper to make, and no doubt charging more for it.

So, I'm thinking about changing them to a different dry food, problem being I'm scared it'll have some effect on my boys over grooming, IE, he'll start again.

So, I'm just looking for some advice really as I can't decide what to do. Should I keep them on the JWB? Or change them to a different food now (close to the end of the current JWB bag so I'd do it now to give myself time to switch them over).

If I do change them, what to? Arden grange (my dogs are on this and doing excellently)? Natures best? Applaws dry? I also noticed pets at home do a 'purely' range which looks quite good (Ingredients here).

Any advice at all is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Dry food advice needed.

I would say if they are doing well on the combination to stick with it, although I don't personally rate JWB anyway - rice is the first ingredient listed at 26%. Meat comes second on the list and its actually meat meal not meat.

Applaws dry is certainly better with regard to meat content and low carb content. Orijen is pretty good meat content too.

Hi Life dry compare well with JWB - take a look at the ingredients - organic meat is the first ingredient listed at minimum 26%, ok it still contains rice, but at least that is second on the list after real meat! Fresh Chicken Recipe

Thanks. I might give the applaws dry a go and see how they do on that as I honestly don't think it'll be long before Mars start messing with the JWB. Orijen is out of my price range sadly but bowmeows sell the Applaws dry 7.5kg bags for £23.99 which is around what I'm currently paying for 5kg of the JWB dry. I have given them hi life before and they wouldn't touch either the wet or dry. Applaws is the only wet food they've ever actually eaten, whenever I've given them wet in the past they've looked at me as thought I'm mental lol.

Re: Dry food advice needed.

i was feedin sheldon on whiskers dry (also wet) then changed to jwb which was better compared to whiskers.

however p@h do a purely range which is high in meat content and is still yummy.

sheldon loves this he also gets the wet range now instead of felix. you can actually see the chunks of fish in it which is great

Re: Dry food advice needed.

I'm using Burns Ocean Fish for the mitten's dry food (they aren't on dry exclusively, prob about 60%) at the moment and they love it, it doesn't belong to Mars or Pedigree or any other evil testing company; it's made in the UK and I'm pleased that there's no wheat or soya in it (gm or otherwise) and they make a point of not using battery chickens. OK there's brown rice & maize in it, but I'm personally really pleased to have finally found the right dry food for our babies!

Re: Dry food advice needed.

I decided to give Arden Grange a go. My dogs are doing excellently on it and since I was ordering some for the dogs I decided to give it a try for the cats. Ordered a 2kg bag to swap them over with and see how they get on.

Arden Grange is really good, my kittens were on this for a while.
