Question can anyone tell me?

Hi all,
I don't know anything about cats, so i thought i'd ask people on here.
how long do you have to leave it before you can have a cat spayed after it has had kittens.

Re: can anyone tell me?

Not sure cos as a breeder i havent had many spayed. Quickest thing is to give your vets a phone call and they will tell you right away. C.x.

Re: can anyone tell me?

When we've had queens spayed after they have had babies it has always been when the babies left home (14 week stage), but that is only if the queen has recovered from having the kittens and her condition is very good. If you think she's still a bit thin or perhaps tired, then hold off a bit longer until you're sure she is 100% fit

Ditto as the above, as soon as she is back in condition I would say, the vets wont put her under unless she looks fit for it. C.x.

Re: can anyone tell me?

I was going to ask the vet as soon as the kittens are weaned and then I'll take his advice on how long she should be left to recover - the problem is they can go into heat about 2 weeks after the birth - I don't want her to keep having litters and she's very hard to keep in.
You've given me something else to think/worry about - I assumed she could be done at about 8wks!

Re: can anyone tell me?

Yes they can call again after about 8 weeks but you really have to keep the cat indoors even if she does drive you crazy! One call without being mated will not do her any harm

Re: can anyone tell me?

Its not good for a cat to be calling for 3 or more times as they could develop a pyometra. Best to get the cat spayed as soon as she has called again after having the kits
