Re: 11 week old kitten always ill?

I've asked about spreading the cost of payment before, and they don't do it - all payment has to be made on the day. I'm going to see if I can borrow the money tomorrow, but I don't think i'll be able to. Do you think it would be really risky not to take him tomorrow? I'm so worried, I really don't think that there's any way I can without the money until Sat

If it were me I would take him straight away but I completely understand that you don't have the money to hand. It happens to the best of us! I once had to rush my girl to the vets on a bank holiday because one of my other cats ripped her eye open down to the iris. That put a dent in my bank account believe you me!!!

All I can say is phone your vet tomorrow and see what they think. They are more qualified than anyone here x

Try not to worry as long as he is eating and drinking well everything should be fine.

It is hard. I'm a medical student and the financial help available is so, so poor. It also means that i'm not eligable for help from pet charities, because i'm not claiming benefits. Cross your fingers for little Sebastian. Thanks for all of your help! x

Re: 11 week old kitten always ill?

It sounds very much like a viral problem (maybe cat flu) which is causing problems to keep recurring. A weak immune system in kittens / cats can be boosted by giving them L-Lysene at 500mg a day, ground into a powder and divided by sprinkling on meals twice a day.

I have used this with very good effect on my kitten which had cat flu symptoms, and bought mine on line from Natures Best.

Also feed good quality food (high meat content such as Hi-Life set food, which is 60% meat). A gradual changeover by mixing usual cat food with new cat food over a few days will be needed to prevent tummy upset.

Obviously, a vets visit is needed to rule out any other problems, but if vet feels a virus is the cause then I would definately give L-Lysene a go for about a month to see a general improvement in health.

I hope your kitty is running riot again soon x

Ask your vet about FIV as my mum's cats had to be tested because their cat flu was so severe and recurring

Cat flu CAN kill. Years ago I had a kitten who lost all its energy, didn't want to eat, drink or anything. You should be worried when it gets to that point. If your kitten is still eating/drinking well and playing it's not as severe but you should still try and get him to the vet as soon as. Would it be possible for you to take him tomorrow?
I'm afraid to say that your kitty may have cat flu for life... if your little one contracts the virus before he/she has had their injections then there is the possibility that they will have it A LOT! A bit like coldsores in humans! I know this because im going through the same thing. Eric had cat flu at 7 weeks when we got him and he still has it now (6 months) we too have spent hundreds on trips to the vet. Also the insurance will only cover a new condition so unless you/your vet can prove that the flu is a different virus then they will be unlikely to ever cover your little one for cat - flu related sickness.... it's harsh but true, i just think you need to be prepared.

The best insurance for us has been direct line- they pay the vet directly so you dont have to find the money to start with xx

Re: 11 week old kitten always ill?

Yes L-lysine is very good. Being a breeder myself & reading up on the benefits of L-lysine I give it to my cats (inlcuding pets) every day. As been said this will help with cats that have suffered or do have symptoms of cat flu, mainly the herpes virus. In cats that have not suffereed this it will just be an overall immunity booster!

I have been using it for about 6 weeks now, I just put the required daily amount in food & water.

Hope this is of some help to those of you who have cats/kittens suffering with cat flu
