Feeding my Kittens...what do I leave out while I'm at work?

Hi,

We have had out 2 kittens since Sunday and I have been off work with them this week. I am feeding them the same food they were having when they were weaned off their mum...Whiskas Kitten pouches in jelly and Whiskas Kitten chicken flavoured dry food.

Because I have been at home with them I am feeding them 'little and often' as per the pack instructions, however, they don't seem to like the dry food and go mad if i get a pouch out of wet (even though apparently they had it from the place we got them from).

I go back to work tomorrow so I won't be here in the day to keep giving them a little bit of wet food, do I leave dry out for them? Is it a case of if they are hungrey enough they will eat the dry?

PLease help I'm worried what to do and don't want them to go hungrey all day?

thank you

Hey...

I'll tell you what we did for our two kitties...

We left out one pouch each topped with biscuits in the morning with water. When we got in at about 6-6.30pm a pouch between them with biscuits and the same when we went to bed, changing the water each time. If you are worried you could always leave a separate bowl of biscuits out.
I also saw your other post on treats/milk. Make sure it is kitten milk. However, we didn't try that as some people said it can upset their tummies.
As for treats, I think we waited until they were about 6 months. We give them nature's menu treats at the mo and haven't tried any others.

It is hard to gauge the food, especially with our 2 - i.e. one boy and one girl. The boy eats aloth more than the girl and sometimes polishes off her food!

I am probably a bit late in replying

our 2 get wet food when we get up in the morning, i put biscuits in their bowl at lunchtime, they get more wet food in the evening when we eat and then i put more biscuits in their bowl when we go to bed

if nobody is going to be here at lunchtime then i put the biscuits out in the morning

if after a few days they are not eating the dry you've left out you could get one of those timed feeding thingys

Re: Feeding my Kittens...what do I leave out while I'm at work?

I use to leave a pouch down in the morn with a separate bowl of dry food and fresh water . Id then change the wet food if any leftover at 2.oo. Then another wet pouch for tea. the dry stuff i left out freely. In fact mine is starting to preferre dry now. May be worth checking out a few other kitten foods as whiskers and a few others only actually contain 4 % meat.

yeah totally agree on the whiskers front,
if you hard up on cash most people are nowdays,
sainsbury do really good cat/products...
apparently cat litter is very good ( sainsburys own range)
and they sell half decent stuff,,,
Hi-life i think its called...

Also tesco do a premium kitten biscuits,,
3.60 for a KG and its minuim 35percent not the best but you cant go wrong for the price..

Hope that helps....

my kitts usuallly sleep through the day
but i make sure theres biscuits and fresh water around..

what routine are they in?

Re: Feeding my Kittens...what do I leave out while I'm at work?

I would definately advocate getting a timed cat feeder (I got mine from pets at home).

I use this every day with my kitten (who is 6 months).

She has 2 pouches of Natures Menu per day given in 4 meals: 7.30am, 12,00, 4pm and 7-8pm.

She is absolutely thriving.

Millie doesn't have dry food as it upsets her stomach.

Re: Feeding my Kittens...what do I leave out while I'm at work?

Thanks everyone for your replys

I actually rang in sick so I could have another day with them - I couldn't resist! So Monday will be the first day they are alone for a long time.

I'll leave wet out with biscuits on and also a seperate bowl of biscuits and see how they do - I didn't know about those feeding timer thingys so if they don't seem to be eating I'll invest in one of those

Thank you xx
