New cat owner worries.
Hi all,
I'm having a new kitten tonight. Previously she has been fine, but today I noticed that her eyes looks strange. After some research I found that this is the kittens "third eyelid", and it could mean the kitten is ill if constantly showing. Apparently, this only shows when she is tired. However, the kitten has diarrhea as well which is what is worrying me. It could be down to a recent food change the current owner gave her. Basically, I've decided to change her food to Go Cat kitten complete (which was recommended to me by a friend), and also to get some kitten milk, and some worming drops. Is this the right thing to do? The kitten is supposedly 10 weeks old, but me and my father have a suspicion that the kitten may be younger than that, due to the size of her. Hopefully this'll turn out to be nothing and she will be well! |

Re: New cat owner worries.
Third eyelid showing is a sigh that a cat is not well id insist that she was checked over by your vet and if anyprobs you can return her and charges will be covered. I would if not tell them your wait for her when shes had a all clear .

Re: New cat owner worries.
No reputable person would let a kitten be re-homed unless it was 110% fit so I would not accept it. If it has the runs and third eyelid across it is obviously ill and moving to a new home would only stress it out and make matters worse for the kitten.
There is always a temptation to "rescue" sick kittens but if you feel you want to do this you have to be prepared for expense and heartache. I would either ask the owner to take it to the vet herself and then go back to see it when it is well, or find another kitten. |

Re: New cat owner worries.
Doesnt sound good, she may have an infection, also i would do some research on food,go cat is not very good, meat content around 4% as opposed to around 60% in premium brands
![]() The breeder should not let her go until she is well, either wait i out or go elsewhere ![]()

Re: New cat owner worries.
Well, just not getting her is not an option. On the advice of a vet (a friend of a friend who I never even knew was a vet), I have wormed her, changed her food, and I've given her 50ml of kitten milk and left down plenty of fresh water.
I'll see how it gies from here. Thanks for your input guys. |

Re: New cat owner worries.
totally your choice to get her its just i personally wouldn't risk taking a kitten who appears to be ill
if her poo is runny then i would stop the milk and all food and feed plain cooked chicken until her poo starts to harden what food have you changed her to? what did you worm her with? |

Re: New cat owner worries.
I've changed her food to Go-Cat Kitten Complete. It seems to be working a bit. It's more solid, but she still has the odd runny one. I'll try feeding her plan cooked chicken like you said and see how she goes from there.
It's strange because she seems totally happy. Playing all the time, purring all the time. |
