Re: Basic rules for feeding raw combined with good quality commercial please

Thank you. I have hare, venison, partridge, lambs hearts & kidneys too. Just need to check how often to give hearts & kidneys.

They all seem more content/satisfied on the raw food. They're not pestering EVERY time I'm in the kitchen.

Heart is counted as muscle meat, not organ meat, so it doesn't count as part of the organ meat content (which would be liver, kidney or other internal 'gubbins', lol)

heart is an EXCELLENT must have in any raw diet

other good muscle meats that work well here are

lungs (bronchial muscle parts), breast, tongue, cheek

basically muscles that have to work all the time, and so contain the highest concentration of taurine.

Anyone with experience of diet & crystals?
Dry diets are the worst thing for cats with crystals/bladder probs - yes, even prescription diets. A raw diet is ideal for cats with these sorts of probs - the diet itself will keep the urine on the acidic side (as it should be).

One of my cats had cystitis and ultimately a urinary tract blockage about 6 yrs ago now (due to feeding dry plus stress related things - I was moving house) so I looked into the problem and decided to get all the cats back onto wet food and ultimately raw - he never had another problem.

Yes, I read that. Strange that the vet would put him on dry? Although he has been on this for 13 years and appears to be very healthy. It would just be sooo much easier for them all to be fed the same as the kittens are all VERY interested in his dry (Hills w/d).

So, muscle meats every day.....organs meats?? How often? What about liver?

Re: Basic rules for feeding raw combined with good quality commercial please

80% muscle meat, 10% organ meat, 10% bone.

Re: Basic rules for feeding raw combined with good quality commercial please

Hi there

Just wanted to update that all kittens and my adult cat are fed exclusively on food4cats raw food now. They are absolutely thriving on it and it's working out to be really economical to feed all 4! My pixie bob who had diarrhea every day for 5 weeks (even on i/d) now has perfect stools! It's really easy too!
