Unhappy does ne1 nw what it is???

my cat, male a year n half old, out of the blue he will fall over and his legs will go all over the place in the air. i have noticed that his legs go weak before this happens he will do this for a matter of sec then get up and be normal and it will only happen like once a month or so. i have no idea what it is, i think its something to do with his legs or his back but im not sure. can any1 tell me what it may be or if they have the same problem.

the last 2 times i saw him do it, he was eating, the 1st time he went into the corner n just fell onto his back with his legs shacking in the air, looking kinda stiff, the 2nd time he quickly got up n his legs went weak but he managed to stop it, after i have to hand feed him cos he wont eat no more, but b4 that it would just be when walking etc.

Re: does ne1 nw what it is???

No one here is qualified to give a diagnosis, only a vet can, and only from examining your cat and running any relevant tests, it would be madness to expect any kind of `diagnosis` for something like this on a forum.
I could easily say `sounds like Epilepsy to me` but it would`nt mean a thing, it would be words on a screen from a stranger and they could be completely the wrong words, same as `it could be a tumour` or `it could be [ insert any condition from a veterinary journal ]`.

What has your vet said - presumably with something like this you have taken your cat to be looked at ??

If not, why not

Sorry but there is no easy way to say it, nor should this be sugar coated anyway quite frankly :

you can`t continue to ignore whatever is wrong, it has clearly been going on for some time for you to give frequency measured in monthly occurrences, it could be so many things including life threatening, and you simply can`t get people on forums to give you a diagnosis, if you have`nt already, you must seek veterinary advice, not only because it`s morally negligent to do nothing through qualified channels but also failure to do so is a criminal offence under the Animal Welfare Act [ Pet Owners' Duty of Care ].

Please report back with what the vet says after you have been - you should be able to get a routine appointment within days at most, though if you have a good vets if you ring in the morning they will likely fit you in before the end of the day....

Agree with Patch, only your vet can diagnose what is wrong with your cat, I would get him checked out asap. Let us know how you get on.

Re: does ne1 nw what it is???

I agree with everyone here.. only a Vet can diagnose. Its easy to say, sounds llike a fit of some sort, and yes I have seen this happen, but.. what I cant say, and neither can anyone else without examining the cat, as to what has caused it..

That is the important thing here... the cause, so please get him to a Vet, and give the Vet as much information as you can.

Re: does ne1 nw what it is???

Dellie, if that is what they said to you, and I have no reason to doubt you, then go to another Vet.

Seriously, there are tests that can be done. I recognised it straight away from your discription, so a Vet should.

How often would a Vet be able to witness what resembles a fit ? whether it be an epileptic cat or a cat with a balance problem? not very often, so go to another Vet or if in doubt, ring your local Cats Protection and ask them to advise you further.

They wont diagnose, just as I cannot, we are not Vets, but they will talk to you about it and guide you.

Has the vet examined him? Taken bloods etc? I hope you can find out what is wrong with your cat. If the cat is an outdoor cat id sugest keeping it in from now on for its own safty.
