Re: Advice - should I bring cat home....?
I am not an expert on cats though I do have one. But they do not always purr through happiness from what I have heard. It's a toughie but I am sure that you will do the right thing for her and you, whatever decision that you make.

Re: Advice - should I bring cat home....?
Hiya hun
Think about it this way.... What happens if for some reason you dont manage to express the urine? What happens if she takes a turn for the worse? You have a 45 minute bumpy drive which could cause more problems in a back injury too, and if you having to go back repeatedly then the risk of doing some damage is going to be greater. Cats purr for all sorts of reasons, but one of those is pain , I'm sure she looks forwards to your visits, and they perk her up mentally though. In all honesty i would leave her where she is, take in some tasty favourite morsels for her and i'm sure the nurses will sit with her whenever possible. I know when i was nursing any "long term" and overnight patients got alot of attention and special love. If i was in your position i would leave her where she is, she is in the best place for her right now - sorry x

I am sorry but I agree. It's the expressing urine and that fact she needs a drip etc. I would just be a bundle of worry, I think. We had a cat with a broken hip and even he was a worry at home, trying to keep him still, in the cage without meowing and wanting out. It was very difficult. I forgot to mention the drip What happens when the bag needs changing (every few hours), what happens if she needs more pain relief added to it, what happens if the catheter blocks, what happens if she pulls it out, I'm sorry but thats something for the professionals to be monitoring. Even being a nurse i woulnt want a pet at home on a drip. Particularly as i have young boisterous kids to keep and eye on and other pets too. It could actually be more stressful for her to be at home surrounded by all that noise and activity. i'm sorry as i know its not what you want to hear. When a pet is ill all we want is for them to be home with us, but really hun she is in the right place for her right now. hugs x

Re: Advice - should I bring cat home....?
the trouble is she is not boisterous, she is not active, she can't even stand.... I think I am just delaying the inevitable and should make the decision to pts... that in itself is another decision as I think it is too early.... I can change a bag and add pain relief... taht's no problem...I think realistically, I wanting to bring her home to die..... and not die in some cage where she knows no one...
but it is only 2 days since the accident.... is it too early? |

Re: Advice - should I bring cat home....?
We always think it is too early.
When I lost one of my little dogs Kizzy a few weeks ago, I nearly said "No! Not yet, come back!" when she started to close her eyes. But I knew it was right to let her go before really started to suffer. My thoughts are with you. I do not envy you this decision. You know where we all are if you need us. I think we all understand what you are going through. |

Re: Advice - should I bring cat home....?
only you can answer that hun.
I meant boisterous kids not the sick pet lol, sorry if i didnt type it very clearly. Talk to the vet honestly. If you are thinking that this may be her time, ask what he think, what the chances are of recovery. From what you have said i would be inclined to leave her another few days to see if the mobility and bladder sensation improve - 2 days after the accident the swelling hasnt had chance to go down, she may still get better, especially if like you said she has sensation in her limbs. If after a few more days though i would probably ask the vet to take her off the meds (apart from pain relief), let you bring her home for a few hours an then make an appointment for them to come out and put her to sleep in her own home environment. Its so hard to make these decisions and in cases like this its a fine balance. Ask the vet what her chances are and base your decision on that hun. BIG BIG hugs xx
