purring problems?????

does anyone know of anthing that cause a cat/kitten to have problems purring?

cookie has now started to purr when she allows us to stroke but in the evenings when she is sleepy and being fussed she starts coughing and spluttering a few times after she's started purring, almost like she's choking

Re: purring problems?????

Oh my lord I was going to post the same thread.

I was thinking possible hair-balls ?

This only happens when Poppy over-purrs, so will be good to see some answers.

Re: purring problems?????

We have two cats like this, they cough anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes and are then fine. One of them is a 10 year old neutered moggie and he's been doing it for years so we don't worry any more. Sometimes I pat them on the back and that seems to help.

Our old moggie often dribbles when he's being fussed too I think he just gets too excited and then goes in to a coughing fit.
