Exclamation I think my poorley puss might be deaf?

My lovely lady is a rather elderly puss. She's been on thyroid tablets for 4 years but appart from that she's never had any other problem. She gets check at the vets regular and bloodtests etc.

However, just recentlt I'm getting the impression she's going/ gone deaf. She's been getting progressively worse and I think it's pretty mush total now. Any body have experience with this? Any advise? She's back at the vets at the end of the month anyway but I'd still like to hear from anyone with similar experience

Hi Lucy-sorry i can't offer any advice as i've no personal experience with this issueBut i'm sure someone else on here will, wouldn't worry to much though as i know this is quite common with the more mature of gals and chaps but they will adapt as will you, good luck at the vets and i'm sure you'll both laugh lots whilst you learn new communication skills

Re: I think my poorley puss might be deaf?

our old moggie went deaf, he lived to 21! He used to follow us around the house and meow really loudly if he couldnt see us!

She will adapt to being deaf.. she will become more dependant on you aswell and wail quite alot probably.

I would try and keep her either as a house cat or keep a really close eye on her when she goes outside as now she wont be able to hear cars or dogs, people etc.

Thanks, it's good to know it's not too bad! I'd forgotten even to mention that she's already decided to be a house cat! She'll only go outside when following me and normally always inside! It's good to hear that her following me and crying sometimes when she's apart is normal as she's been doing it already! Thanks so much!

Although thinking about it, half the time she's the one to get up, walk then sit there howling! If I go to see her, she run away! It's just one big game with her! Which is fine unless I'm trying to sleep LOL

aww bless her...

Yeh don't worry about it too much.. our cat was like a little old man.. he lived to 21 and was deaf the best part of 5 years and had a very happy life (although a very quiet life!)
