6 month old cat - blood in poo
Hi,
My 6 month old male has for the last few weeks been on and off with diarrohea, and has been to the vets a couple of times and also been castrated recently. He had diarrohea before castration so it had to be postponed, then the diarrohea stopped so his castration went ahead and he recovered well except the diarrohea returned. The vet said to bring im back the week after if it hadnt stopped, but it did stop so i didnt go back to the vets. His poos have been fine for a few days, but just now he has done one and whilst it is normally formed and not liquidy, it has a little bit of fresh blood in it that looks like a clot the size of a pinhead. He is absolutely fine in himself, has only recently started going outside but had diarrohea before that, is fully wormed/flead/vaccinated and was before it all began. We feed felix kitten, but did have purina pro plan at first, which we stopped as it was expensive. We have not changed from felix over the last couple of months so it cannot be a food change causing the differences in his bowel movements. Obviously i am going to call the vets and get an appointment first thing Monday, but i wondered if anybody had any similar experiences or suggestions as a google search seems to bring up a whole range of possibilities. Im wondering if he might just have a sensitive bowel considering it comes and goes and doesnt seem to effect his temperament? Thanks in advance for any advice. |

Re: 6 month old cat - blood in poo
Hi you are right google bring's up all sort's. I think you are doing the best thing, taking lil one back to the vet's if the diarrohea is on going, do you give kitty milk? cos that could cause loose stool's & pos cause bowl irritation.
You may have to change lil one's diet. Is lil one happy enough? & got a good appetite some cat's can show blood in the stool's, one of my cat's did. But the vet didn't seem too concerned as he was eating well & appeared healthy enough. Don't get to distressed, you know what it's like, the more info we read the more our brain thinks the worst. ![]() |

Re: 6 month old cat - blood in poo
Thankyou for your reassuring reply.
He is absolutely fine in himself, i rarely see any of my cats drink so am not sure how much he's drinking, but he has more than a healthy appetite - i actually wondered if he is too hungry and whether that is related. He hasnt had any kitty milk, purely felix kitten. He will scrounge anything else left out so we have to be careful to scrape plates etc. It is only a small amount of blood and inconsistant so i am not concerned that its anything too serious, but hopefully the vet will be able to shed some light on it. |

Re: 6 month old cat - blood in poo
Just an update incase people have similar worries.
I took max to the vet this afternoon and the vet has given me some sensitive food to try him on as he may have an irritable bowel issue. He's also asked for a faecal sample to check it isnt a bacteria. He didnt seem overly concerned as max is fine in himself, eating and drinking, and not vomiting - so we shall see if the sensitive food clears it up, and just keep him on that if thats what it is. £90 worse off but more at ease! |
