What is the most effective way to erradicate fleas?

Alfie was "de-flead" by the breeder before I picked him up, of which I was told to use frontline again in 3 months time.

It's been 2 months now and I noticed Alfie had what looked like flea eggs on his chin and he's been scratching alot the last 2 days.

I have bathed him in a flea repellant cat shampoo, used a flea comb on him, put another frontline on him and I have used a house spray to kill any fleas that might have got in the carpets..

Nightmare! have I done enough or is there anything else I can do to prevent it happening again?

Yeh I really don't know how he's got them, I live in a new build so no other animals have been in my house..

Does frontline kill adult fleas or just the eggs?

Re: What is the most effective way to erradicate fleas?

it should break the whole life cycle. some times fleas can jump on us if we visit other people or our guests that have them and visit , or maybe off a hedgehog if we go for a walk.

I've had a thought, it sounds like cat acne if it's under his chin only.Do They look like little black specs ?

Re: What is the most effective way to erradicate fleas?

hi

i personally use a product over the counter called 4fleas its a tablet and it kills 99% of fleas in 24hrs - only problem with this is it doesnt kill the eggs - you would need to wash and comb these out - they also do a 4fleas shampoo - to be honest 4fleas is the best flea treament i have ever used. the thing is you need to break the cycle and then prevent.

i have a very strict flea and worming timetable - in order to prevent. i learnt my lesson - i bought a kitten that was apparently flea free - it wasnt and was a nightmare to clear having so many cats and dogs - now i flea them even though they dont have fleas just to make sure and prevent.....

I totally agree, one of my boys had it, there is a antiseptic wash you can get from the vets, to clean the area, then use a fine flea comb to gently take out the black bits,

Re: What is the most effective way to erradicate fleas?

Yea, it's definately cat acne that and not fleas. The was is called Hibi scrub, it's fab stuff I used it on one of mine and she is totally clear now. Also Olay Facial wipes are great to keep them clear too. I got both from Boots, lol. It's like teen spots on a human, lol. There is some great info on the FAB Cat web site about it too
