Advice on neutered female who had kittens January
Hi
I have just adopted a Maine Coon ex-queen who is 3 years old and had kittens in January this year. She has been neutered and vaccinated. She is not looking her best at the moment. I am feeding her RC Maine Coon 31 on advice of the breeder. The breeder said she could have extras, such as raw mince, cooked fish, cooked chicken etc. RC gives a weight chart and a recommended daily intake. Not sure whether I should give the supplement as extra (and how much?!) or give less RC. Any advice? |

Re: Advice on neutered female who had kittens January
To be honest I don't tend to go by charts. I feed mine RC Maine Coon too, plus the raw mince ect. I would just give her what she wants to eat for now, if you think shes piling on too much weight, then cut down a bit. You can get RC indoor for neutered cats, it's not as fattening. I take it she will be a housecat ? Just make sure you have plenty for her to do to keep the weight down

Re: Advice on neutered female who had kittens January
Thanks for advice - yes she is a pet/house cat. She is very petite for a MC. Has loads of energy. I want her to get accustomed to the new environment - all my dust mites
etc before i try anything other than RC MC31 just in case she gets upset stomach. I feel it must be hard enough for the cat to move, different things, noises, smells etc so i will wait a week before introducing raw/cooked meats. She obviously had not seen a washing machine before (it was off in a very separate utility room at the breeder's). She was totally fascinated by the washing going round and round...... Hahaha, bless her, mine do that, lol. They also pinch the washing if the door is left open!! lol. Usually socks
If she's used to raw, she should be ok to have it straight away. Where did you get them from ? I know some nice MC breeders |

Re: Advice on neutered female who had kittens January
When you say she's not looking her best do mean her coat? It could be the stress of moving.
However im sure you probably know i dont like royal canin its full of fillers thats arent great for your cat, i have adopted an ex-queen too (bengal) and shes the same, just turned 3 and been neutered, she was on royal canin and felix, ive changed her onto natures menu and orijen (gradually) as she was having very loose stools and her coat wasnt great. It was mainly because of her loose stool i had a look into foods and was very shocked at what i found!I also wouldnt feed just dry food i give Betz it because she's used to it and can nibble on it through the day, she has 2 meals a day of the wet food and she now has firm poo's and a great shiney coat ![]() But like i said she maybe stressed with the move.

Re: Advice on neutered female who had kittens January
Hi
Yes the coat - her tail looks as though a bad hairdresser has cut chunks out of it and her ruff is non-existant. She is very energetic and self-confident - no probs there - and I adopted a neutered MC male (2 ) from the same breeder - they get on very well. I got them weighed today at the vet - the female is 3.9 kg and the male is 4.7 kg - both are lively and energetic. The male is 2 years old and neutered. My MC who died was fed solely on IAMs (which is now frowned upon) and very very occaisonal raw chicken which he would have died for but he lived to 15 which is good for a MC. The female MC was a breeding queen therefore must have had attributes which were desireable but is very petite (IMHO) for a MC. I want to make sure I do my best for her - not to make her fat - but to make sure her coat is up to MC standards - she is actually very, very pretty (silver tortie) and very self confident |

I think I got that - soft rubber brush thingy with rubber cones for teeth - works well for getting dead hair out but is gentle like being stroked by a hand |
