Which food should I choose?
I'm the proud owner of Scratch & Tickle, 4 month old kittens!
But I live in Germany and am completely overwhelmed by the amount of kitten food on offer and would like to have some feedback on what seem to be the most popular food sold over here. I've decided to feed them only wet food and they're currently eating Kitten Instinctive by Royal Canin, which they enjoy. However, my local pet store has told me that the wet food by Iams or Hills Science Plan is slightly better and I should consider buying that instead. As both of these cost more than the RC food, I'm just wondering if this is just a clever marketing ploy by them or whether it would be worthwhile buying this in future. From what I've read on this site, Whiskas is a no-no! Thanks for any advice! |

Re: Which food should I choose?
Yes, agree with Nicky, there are definitely better wet foods than Iams and Science Plan, and dare I say, even Royal Canin!
Better foods have a higher meat content and no cereals/grains/veggies (cats don't need 'em). Hi Life realmeat is pretty good, also Natures Menu, Forthglade, Bozita, Applaws (applaws adult isnt complete although I believe the kitten one is). What you want to see when you look at the ingredient list is meat as the first and main ingredient. If the list starts with cereals or rice and meat is third, fourth or further down the list, I'd give it a wide berth. ![]() Zooplus has a good range of better quality foods for cats Pet Supplies, Pet Food, and Pet Products on Sale Now at zooplus.co.uk and they have interenational sites Tierbedarf, Futter, Tiernahrung günstig kaufen bei zooplus.de |

Re: Which food should I choose?
Look for a food which has a minimum pure meat content of 60%, and is grain-free. Cats cannot process grains, and they are used as useless fillers in pet-foods. Carbohydrates will damage your cat's health over time. Do not feed dry, if you want your cats to live healthy lives. It's great that you've already decided not to feed them dry, but most wet foods also contain carbohydrates, in the form of cereals, so the following applies also:
The Truth About Dry Cat Food from Blakkatz Try to find an organic, high-meat, grain-free wet food. That will be the best thing, next to a raw diet, that you can do for your cats. Good luck! |
