Re: Is this the right choice??

I feed all my cats/kittens on Natures Menu and their poo never smells! I think its all down to the individual cat. I also leave applaws dry down at all times and they really love to snack between meals! I think its nice for them to have something to snack on and you know that they wont go hungry! All 4 of my cats drink alot of water also and they get water from the wet food.

Lupin&co is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Is this the right choice??

Honestly, I don't think there is one right choice. There is a choice that's right for you & your cat, and you have to find it for yourself by experimenting with different options. If you can't afford the very best food, or can't practically feed a raw diet, then don't beat yourself up about it ... just look around for something decent (e.g. high meat content) that your cat likes & that you can manage. Personally, I feed one pouch of HiLife a day & leave down Applaws dry for the rest of the time. He's happy & healthy, and so am I , which is the point

Mine ignores anything that doesn't LOOK like Applaws. I get away with Tesco Finest cos it looks like it rather than brown like most wet foods as she ignores Hi Life too.

Re: Is this the right choice??

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

After hearing about the dried and the water intake I have decided to turn it round the other way.....Wet main and a few dried as a treat.

No smelly poos yet!! and she seems to like the Nature diet.

Got a large sack of JWB so an awful long time for treats hhaha.

But anyway just to say I really appreciate all the advice, the Fors and the Against. As I said before I realise the subject had been covered so thanks for your patience.

May I ask why no dry? This is a real learning for me.

Loulou has her dried out all the time but has her wet (up till now Whiskas kitten pouch) mixed with dry in the evening.

Once again I thought I was doing right and really looked at the pouch as a treat.
Hi, here's why no dry: The Truth About Dry Cat Food from Blakkatz
I would not feed my cats dry, for their own health. Any claims about dental health and dry are just nonsense - in fact it coats the teeth and gums with greasy carb deposits, which are very damaging.

And here, sorry, this is not for the faint-hearted:
Toxic Pet Food

And here's a great food, if you're in the UK or Ireland, and don't want to go raw yet: Lily's Kitchen • Organic Pet Food, Holistic Pet Care - Certified Holistic Pet Food • Organic dog food recipes • Organic cat food recipes • Lily's Kitchen are ethical producers of organic, holistic, pet foods providing optimum nutr
You are right to look for minimum 60% meat content, (not derivatives) but I'd only feed fish once a week or so. It has a high mercury content, which is a contaminant, thanks to our polluted seas.
I feed my two kitties raw food now, after going through a halfway house of Lily's, which they adored. But they adore their raw meat even more, as their jaws and teeth are getting that longed-for exercise, and I'm secure in the knowledge that their teeth are being cleaned the natural way!

Oh, and, sorry for sounding negative about everything, but don't mix dry and wet food, if you are feeding dry. The dry will undergo a bacteria explosion when it encounters moisture of any kind. This is a breeding ground for bugs. Even stored in the fridge, dry food should not be moistened.

Re: Is this the right choice??

I feed a combo of wet Bozita and Butchers Classic with dry for an emergency (Orijen).

Poos do not smell.

However i think that it depends on the cat and the owner. I remember that my childhood cat was fed exclusively cooked coley (a white fish) which was mixed with breadcrumbs and it lived to ripe old age.

Cat food in tins really was rather unapealing having a terrible smell.
