Spotting and bladder problems

Hello can I ask for some advice please?
Mavis is a lovely rescue cat, I've had her for nearly ten years, she's about 12 now.
She's had a history of cystitis but apart from that she's generally happy and healthy (regular checks by the vet) but recently Mavis has been behaving out of character.
Almost every week she has difficulty urinating in her litter tray and instead squats in the carpet. There are a few spots (some of them with traces of blood) and then after a while she seems fine and carries on using her tray. She seems a bit distressed (but nothing like as bad as her cystitis episodes).
The vet put her on a renal diet a year ago, which she loves - and eats fairly well.
However she has been losing weight very slowly but steadily for years.
She's also on a dietary supplement (cystease capsules) and I've got a feliway plug in thing.
I've taken urine samples to the vet - who says there are no traces of blood or crystals.
But I'm still concerned. Has anyone got any similar experiences? Is it just old age? Anything else I should be doing?

thanks
Matthew

I thought you were bound to say she had cystitis again after reading the symptoms - I'm surprised the vet didn't find anything in the urine samples. What has she/he suggestedis the problem?

Re: Spotting and bladder problems

I understand that stress can be a major influence in cat cystitis.... could there be anything stressing her? another cat? changes? cats outside bothering her... or cats inside?

Re: Spotting and bladder problems

Thank you. Yes all good points. If it is cystitis it's not like the previous cases - and the vet says there's no sign of a full bladder or urine retention. They've suggested more urine samples.

Mavis was a very nervous and stressed cat when she was rescued 8/9 years ago. She's much calmer now - though I do wonder if it might be stress related (hence the felaway things - I bought another one today). The only thing I can think is that the flat is up for sale and there are visits from the estate agents with prospective buyers. But she greets them at the door and loves the attention (and they love her) - there's no hiding under the sofa or anything. And she's a flat cat and doesn't go out or mix with other cats.

Re: Spotting and bladder problems
