8 week old kitten

I got my kitten Nando on saturday, he is 8 weeks old. The girl I got him from was giving him kitten milk she also said he would have a little whiskas kitten food. He has settled in fine, plays all day long but he is only interested in drinking his milk, he sniffs the food but thats it. Can someone tell me how I can get him off milk and onto food pls?

Have you tried a different food? Some cats/kittens can be really fussy.

You could try putting a little bit of food on his paws so he has to lick it off & hopefully he will get a taste for it!

I got him the whiskas kitten food as that was what he was having. Should I wean him off the kitten milk? If so what is the best way to go about it.

To be honest I would keep giving it to him especially as he's not eating, but you could try watering it down for a gradual wean.

Re: 8 week old kitten

can I refer you to this thread Getting kittens on to dry food.. - you'll find much debate there on what to feed kittens!
It seems a pretty general consensus on here that whiskas (and felix) tinned food isn't all that...
A lot of cats (and pet-owners) dislike it. I've heard it has addictive additives, my mum's cats won't touch it and she blames the GMO soya.
Perhaps your kitten was raised on dry food? I really rate techni-cal, also my kitties are very much enjoying hi-life (pouches) which morrisons have just started stocking.
But that aside... you got to work with what you've got, which right now happens to be whiskas. Try mixing the kitten milk with a little wet food, it makes it more lappable. It does seem a little worrying to me if an 8 week old kittie won't eat anything but milk, so I would try something else tomorrow xxxx

Re: 8 week old kitten

Mix in some of the milk... keep checking on the food to see if it goes down... if he still hasnt touched any of it later on then give him some milk so he isnt hungry... but mixing milk with the food encourages lapping... then if this works gradually put less milk in and more food... give it a go... dont let him go hungry so give him milk if he seriously wont eat... but give him time he might sniff at it and walk off... but if he gets a bit hungry he might go back and have a go...

Re: 8 week old kitten

I had the exact problem with my 9 week old Woody...we tried giving him the food he was used to and he wouldn't touch it...we bought some dried food from Sainsbury's (GoCat Complete Kitten I think) and he yummed it down.

Re: 8 week old kitten

Good news he ate quite a bit of his dried food today. I had some Go Cat for kittens in a bowl and he has eaten that. I went the shops today and got him a few different pouches to try...lol, he might eat them at a later date so will keep hold of them.
