Question Newborn kittens

Hi Guys,

I hope you can help me,

My cat has 4 kittens and they are 10 days old today, I have noticed that 2 of the kittens only have one eye open, is this normal?
Anyone know what I should do, Do I leave it a few more days or do you think it's best to go see the vet

Thanks

Re: Newborn kittens

Leave it a while - some open later than others. BUT if you see any weeping under the eyes or crustiness, bathe gently with moist cotton wool soaked in saline, and think about consulting a vet if it doesn't improve or gets worse, particularly if there is any yellow matter.

hope they do fine - most do!

Re: Newborn kittens

All sounds fine to me, enjoy your babies. Dont worry if they dont start eating solids at a set time just give mummy loads to eat to make into milk.

Re: Newborn kittens

Quite likely a tube of Fulcithalmic ointment which is antibiotic and used a lot for eye problems, and continued bathing

Smile Re: Newborn kittens

thanks for all your help,

I am bathing the eyes with saline solution although they do not look sore or crusty, I am just being cautious.

If the eyes are not open within the next day or two I think I will take them to the vet just to be safe.

I cannot let anything happen to my babies

Re: Newborn kittens

You can easily make your own saline solution: 1 teaspoon of salt to 1 pint of boiled water. Allow to cool.
