I also need help on worming

I have a 13w old kitten. He came to me last week as he was unwanted by previous owner. I got him vaccinated last wednesday and he is due his 2nd shot in just over 2w

The previous owner gave me some worming liquid (johnsons syrup) which I gave him on monday as they said he was due a dose every 2w but im pretty sure he HAS worms and im not so sure this syrup is doing any good

What can I do? Can I try a different syrup/tablet/paste or should I just wait it out until his jab and ask advice their. I really dont like the thought of the little guy having worms (for his health and my kids!)

Any advice? I dont want to go buy another and overdose him, I was thinking about drontal tablets

Re: I also need help on worming

I would advise you to go the vet and get Drontal or Milemax or something similar. Pet shop bought wormers and flea treatments do mormally work and some of them can actually do more harm than good.

Re: I also need help on worming

Can I give drontal on top of this other wormer though? Im worried about overdosing him. He was also frontlined yesterday! poor kitty, he must hate me. Moves in and gets jabbed frontlined and wormed (maybe twice) in his first week!

Pets at home sell Drontal I was thinking about popping up their first thing, because the vets is a bit of a trek. I may give them a call in the morning though and ask their advice

I use drontol too for both of mine. I have no idea how johnsons syrup would mix with drontol so best to check with your vet first.

Re: I also need help on worming

I've just had to rush to pets@home and picked up Sherleys worming syrup as it was the only one they had for kittens.

I am hoping it does work, but what a nightmare it was trying to get Poppy to take it

I had thought the RSPCA had wormed her before I got her but Poppy threw up loads of worms earlier all on my bed YUK

Re: I also need help on worming

You need to get her some drontal or Milemax, they are the only ones that will work. I would advise you taking her to the vet this time around asap.

Re: I also need help on worming

Over the counter wormers aren't as effective as the ones vets prescribe, they get some but not all of the worms and problems reaccur sooner. Shouldn't be a problem to use milbemax but I think drontal's a bit too strong for kittens.
