Runny poo :(

Hey guys, some may know me from a thread i made a while back. Anywho me and my flat mate finally got a kitty, altho he came from a shelter so he is alil timid, which may contribute to his problem, im not too sure.

He is currently having quiet runny poo, the first few days it was diahrea altho its starting to get better but they are still pretty soggy, so soggy that as soon as i scoop it out of the litter tray it gets all over the scoop and just makes scooping out poop that little bit funner -...-

He's never had and shots but has always been an indoor cat, hes never been dewormed or deflead or anything. We figured it may of been worms so we dewormed him about 5 days ago and he still is having wet poo. He also has alot of scabs on him, its hard to get a real look at them because he runs off as soon as we start pullign back his hair to see what it is. He is however quiet clumsy so it may just be where he has grased himself from falling off stuff, but tis always nice to be sure.

We tried to get him to the vets last week however the monster actually broke the cat carrier door and ended up ripping my arm to pieces in the process (remind me to get his nails cut ) So taking him to the vets isnt an option until we buy a new cat carrier, im thinking maybe a reinforced steel cage usually used for bears?

Another thought may be that hes alil stressed and so his poo is alil runny, but he doesnt seem very stressed, he always comes up for cuddles when im on the sofa and he can be purring in m arms purring for hours. We also thought it may be the food? But we use the same food the last owner was feeding him, and that is 1 pack of whiskers in the morning with some biscuits around lunch time and then another pack at dinner and then some biscuits before we go to bed so he has something to munch on if he gets hungry (Thats what we have been told to feed him.)

So does anyone know what could be causing the poo and the scabs? We plan on trying to get him to a vets as soon a spossible but with me and my flat mates working hours the only real time we can do such a thing is on a monday and then we still need to save for a new cat carrier, so it could be a few weeks until we can get him a check up and his shots.

Any help is much appreciated Thanks !

Re: Runny poo :(

Not sure about the poo bit but i have a cat who gets scabs on her back and when i have taken her to vet she has a anti biotic injection that lasts a few days as she wont take tabs but this clears it up.She has a skin allergy to something she used to eat alsorts of different biscuits and meats but not really had the problem since putting her on science plan biscuits.Woud get cat to vets and have him checked out once you get a new carrier .Hope he feels better soon

My 7 week old kitten was only eating cat milk and she got runnny poo.
Make sure you are not giving it any milk.
The vet gave us some medicine and Royal Canine Sensitivity S/o food. You can get it on line- it is allergy free.
She loves it and poos much better!

If the kitty hasn't been de-wormed or de-flea'd when it was in the shelter then you need to get this done asap. The scabs could be from where fleas have irritated the skin and kitty has had a good scratch, especially if it has really sharp claws. If you can get the kitty to the vets as soon as you have a new carrier and then the vet can get scratched giving any treatments It could be stress related, I have a very nervous cat who is fine around us inside the house but if someone she doesn't know comes around she's off like a shot, when she is stressed she can get runny poops. Hope the kitty gets better soon for both of you (as it's not nice cleaning the tray with runny in it).

Re: Runny poo :(

Whiskas is very rich, so this will not be helping. I would get her on plain white cooked fish and just water, also if you can a bit of probiotic natural yoghurt will help. I'd definitely knock the whiskas on the head though

Re: Runny poo :(

Oh one of my favourite subjects!

It does concern me that a shelter can rehome a kitten without innoculating, deworming, defleaing etc. Is this a UK shelter?

I would lose the Whiskas and try a milder food for a bit - white fish and rice (rice to provide the carbs) is as bland as you can get.
A course of anti-biotics could be in order, so put him on Clavaseptin (or similar) for a week or so. Then dose him with probiotics to replace the 'good bacteria' that we hear so much about.

The scabs are probably down to a chronic flea problem, so get him Frontlined and follow up in a few weeks. Does he have any thin fur patches?

From my own experience a Pro biotic will only help if the cat is not lactose intollerant.

great advice and also from Katherna Cookie I am sure when you have your cat wormed etc this will help immensely and also a light diet-then you'll find out all his/hers particular likes and dislikes Worms and Fleas usually do go hand in hand when they've not been treated and this brings about loose poos-and the scabs your describing indicate that he/she has had fleas for a very long time-but with due care is treatable-also make sure you de-flea your home and everything in itDo keep us updated and goodluck

Re: Runny poo :(

Hey ! thanks for all the replys guys

We didnt techiniclly get him from a shelter, we got him from a family who we suspect didnt treat him very well (who wouldnt bother deworming/de fleaing/getting shots etc etc?)

We have dewormed him, he does have very sharp claws so it may indeed be from irratation, or hes scratching his itchy scabs which makes it even worse? He licks more than anythign tho, he is always licking, he doesnt itch much, which makes me think he doesnt have fleas, and weve never seen any fleas about, but he allllways licks. (Maybe cleaning his wounds?)

He does have a few places on him where there is no fur, weve checked them out and the skin there looks just fine.

We bought some flea spray the other day and we will try to use it today, the only problem is as soon as we use it he will run away. It also says not to use on broken skin, and as he has aot of scabs and what not . . meh :S

I will get some new cat food soon aswell and take him off the whiskers and see if that helps Thanks for all the input guys
