swollen tummy

My kitten is nine weeks old. I got him 7 days ago from a rescue centre (he'd been brought in week earlier with three siblings and mum). He was very quiet at first and justwanted to sit on lap or in his basket or eat. He is the same now (still scared of his toys and doesn't want to play).
He was eating dry food but then yesterday ha d two bouts of diarrhea. he wasn't drinking any water so was a little worried about him being dehydrated so today i've given him a pouch of wet food (half at morning and half at night). His stools are a lot more solid now. He still wants to eat but has now got a swollen tummy (previously he liked having his tummy stroked but now he tries to avoid it). he has also started making smells - is it possible that he has just got wind? He was wormed two weeks ago. I am taking him to the vets next week for his first lot of vaccines. Do you think it is just change of surroundings / diet or something else?

Re: swollen tummy

Hi, it's best to get your kitten checked over by the vet earlier than next week. It could be a variety of common easily fixable things, or it could be something more urgent that the vet should take a look at.

It's good news that his stools aren't loose anymore though.

So many things can make our kittens bloated, (mine looks fat when he's had dinner) but it's always best checked out by your vet asap.

Keep us posted on how the little guy gets on

Re: swollen tummy

Best get him checked out at the vets - my first suggestion would be to have wormed him but you have already done this. Also perhaps put him on a very bland diet for 48 hours - cooked white fish perhaps with a little boiled rice or cooked chicken and rice - don't give him any kitten food then just gradually reintroduce it.
