Is tinned tuna too salty?

I was just wondering if tinned tuna is too salty for cats?
Ive been giving it a couple of times a week to my cat who has a litter of 5 kittens who are just over a week old.
She loves it.
Ive been buying the springwater type but ive got some with brine.
Do you think a swill under the tap would get rid of any salt?
Thanks in advance jen

I give to mine straight out the can - both springwater and brine.
I also give them tinned pilchards in brine (this is their fav)

Re: Is tinned tuna too salty?

my breeder told me never to feed my cats tuna coz it has a high mercury content.
Try salmon or pilchards in tomato sauce, or steamed cod/coley.

Yes they love pilchards.
I also steam fresh fish for them too Although they prefer cod to coley!

Re: Is tinned tuna too salty?

tuna is bad for cats. if you have to then feed once a week at the most, and then just a little bit as a treat. i don't give mine tuna but i do sometimes let them drink the tuna spring water for a treat. it's not great on their tums sometimes, can make them a little loose.

Re: Is tinned tuna too salty?

We feed ours tuna on a regular basis-it's fine for ours anyway, for the mercury level to come into effect you'd have to feed them a wholeloada tuna,we swill ours under the tap and drain and mix it too
