Re: Dilemma! again *sigh*

Hello Amy

I suggest that if you wish to see your friend, go along and then when you get back home, go straight to the bathroom, wash your hands and change your clothes before petting anyone.

It would be the same if you were to visit different breeders - we prefer people not to visit two on the same day for that reason - usually people have a wash and change from one day to the next so germs from one area are not transferred to the next.

Hope that is ok.

Thanks so much Rraa, I didnt know if i was being too paranoid thinking that her cats could transfer infection, Would i have to clean shoes, clothes, etc or is that being too silly. I just dont want to risk my kitten if she doesnt treat hers.

hi

sorry, i migth be misunderstanding you but do her cats actually HAVE cat flu - or are you just assuming because they havent had injections they will carry it????

If they havent actully got cat flu i think your being a bit dramatic about giving it to your new kitten. I know someone who had 4 cats 3 who never had injections and 1 who had every booster - the one that had every booster was the only one to come down with cat flu. the other 3 never caught it off him and they lived in the same house and had never been jabbed. I know one vet that doesnt even recommend having the jabs done if they are indoor cats..... I think you need to be a bit more realistic I knwo your probally just worried for your new kitten but please put things in context. - if her cats dont actually have it it is extremely unlikely you will give it to your kitten after just visiting her.

Also its personal choice whether to jab animals or not - i dont think anyone has the right to force it on someone if they dont want to get in done.

I agree with all of that, also i thought cat flu was transmitted by cat to cat contact only directly. And i have 2 moggies who are 12 years old who have never been jabbed, and never been ill.

hi

As i said i understand you are concerned as a new owner - but you do need to do a lot of research into cats and there possible problems as this post was definetly being a bit dramatic.... my family have kept cats for many many years some have been jabbed others not they have all mixed together and we have never had any problems. unforuently some vets are out to make money - and will push unessacary treatment - shop around for vets until your happy.

also if you'd like a read on vaccintaions have a look at this - ive borrowed the link from another member (alan - so thanks it was a great read) who posted it on another thread - i think you might find it quite eye opening......

Re: Dilemma! again *sigh*

Amy i'd go with Raa on this-as every house has it's own bugs, and though her cats may be fine-yours may not-so i don't think your being overly dramatic-i think your being as responsible as is necessary

Re: Dilemma! again *sigh*

If i was being dramatic i didnt mean it to come across that way - more-so over caring sort of thing is how i am lol.
The only reason i ask is because with a litter how do you know that all cats are having full amounts or even any of mums colostrum as im sure thats what gives slight immunity, My kitten is only 10weeks old and so i have no idea if he has any immunity deficiency or if her cats have any illnesses until i get there. I was merely asking 'Can i spread infection'
Quote:
How do i stand going over there? do i risk infecting my kitten when i come home cause id rather save my kitty
I accept other peoples opinions and i dont think either way is wrong or right, you made a good point of saying each to their own. I myself choose to keep him immunised and always have done with pets. Ive decided not to show my friend the leaflets i got, im going to keep them for me, after all my kitten is my worry and hers is her worry. Again my caring side took over and i guess looking at the leaflets of cat flu made me more determined to ask her to consider coming with me again.
Thanks again for any opinions, thoughts and replies. xx
