6 month old after op

Hi, i have a 6 month old kitten (well 3) but one of themhad an ublilical hernia, and it was operated on today,

He does not like wearing the collar that he has on, and is getting very stressed out about it now.

I know stress is bad for any pet, but he is starting to go mad.

The op was only done today, but i just want to take it off. Is there anything i can do? CAN i take it off?

Stress can kill and id rather take it off than find him dead with stress

I think if he's getting that stresses out with it then take it off but just keep an eye on him incase he tries to lick at the stitches.

Re: 6 month old after op

If i take it off, what is likley to happen if he did mangee to lick his wound (its nire impossible to watch him 24/7

When they stitched him up, they said they put them under the skin, and are those disolvoble ones so he does not need to get them removed

I think you should just see how it goes.
If he starts licking at the wound then it'l have to go back on.

Re: 6 month old after op

if he licks too much he can re-open the wound and will have to go back to the vets i would personally leave it on and take it off about 10 mins every 2 hours so he gets a break from it being on.
If he is really bad contact your vet as they may suggest you take it off, or give him a sedative to relax him just for today

he has already had a seditive today, but whne i asked the vet there she said its best to leave it on but now he is getting stressed, ive taken it off and he is much more relaxed. Washed his face for about 15 mins and then went to eat his food and will probably sleep soon too.

Think he is much happier. I'll try keep an eye on him.

Hopefully he wont lick the wound when im not watching though

Thanks guys - very helpful forum here ):

Re: 6 month old after op

Thought i'd give a small update.

HE did go to lick his wound once, but after a telling off, stopped and then continued to lick his u know what. who says cats are clean

Without the buster collar though, he does seem much more relaxed.

Though, he is sleeping away now.

Why do cats alwys sleep on something hard such as a floor or a table rather than a bed or pillow? thats something thats always confused me lol
